So I've done a bit of research and I've come up with some possible reasons as to why my 2009 GS500F isn't idling:
Accelerator pump
Vacuum leak
Fuel pressure regulator
Spark plugs
Ignition timing
Computerized engine control System
EGR valve

Out of these listed above which aren't possible on my bike? For instance, does my bike even have a computerized engine control system? I'm trying to cross off possibilities so I can get this problem resolved.

these carbs dont have accelerator pumps
the newer models, like yours, do have tps, ie throttle position sensors

what is it doing? did u mess with it lately?  has it sat for a while?.......need more info than "my bike wont idle, whats wrong with it?"

My apologies, the bike sat for about 3 months but has been riden everyday since then. The major thing I did was take off the clutch cover, clutch plates, and put it all back together with the help of the people on this website. It has 17k miles and the only maintenance I've done is an oil change.

So what is it doing?  The clutch/clutch cover should have nothing to do with idling.  Did it idle bad afetr sitting for the period?, or all of a sudden?  C'mon man, gimme some dang info!

Okay, yes, it started after it sat for the 3 months. I'll let it warm up like usual. Take the choke off and it will die. I turn it back on give it just a tiny bit of throttle so it will idle and I take off ill ride to school (10 minutes) and when I get there it still dies. When I drive to work (20 minutes) it idles very roughly. After riding for about 20 minutes if it does die I can start it and it will idle fine, but after getting to the next red light it will need assistance again.

The carb jets are varnished from sitting........I would 1st drain the fuel (if its the same crap that has sat for te long period of time), refill with fresh petrol, add some Seafom, and see what happens.  If that doesn't do the trick, pull the carbs and clean them the old fashioned way!

Craigs beat me to it... So +1 on his suggestions.

My first thoughts here was that these were symptoms of old gas, so be sure it has some fresh gas and try out some Seafoam.

Okay thank you! Would some carb cleaner spray work? Or am I going to have to brush them? And will I need to remove the floats, needles, etc.?

Try he Seafoam additive to the fuel 1st to see if that clears it up.  If it's still the same after the Seafoam treatment, you will have to pull the carbs, and you will need carb cleaner spray, yes you will have to pull the floats, the jets, and clean every orifice of the carbs with the cleaner spray followed by compressed air. 

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SEPARATE THE CARBS TO DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!.......THIS CAN BE DONE WITH THE CONNECTING LINKAGE IN PLACE.....DO NOT MESS WITH THE SYNCH SCREW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LINKAGE

Okay, thanks for all your help. I'll update when the "procedure" is done.

How long should I give the seafoam before I take the carbs out and clean them? And a hanging idle (if that's the correct term) is when the idle screw is set too high correct?

If it were me I would just pull the carbs, remove the float bowls, air screws and jets and clean everything good

I shouldn't have to mess with the float heights, should I?
