Once I realized that I could use a jack under the engine (with piece of wood to go up between the headers) to life the front end and get the right amount of pressure on the back wheel to line up the bolt and get it in and out it wasn't bad at all.

I did this same rigging when installing my lowering links... You can also achieve the same thing by levering the rear wheel up with a 2x4 and block, while on the center stand for the slight pressure needed to get that bolt back in there.

I guess we should, for we would still be in living in caves without him.

Installed a Yoshimura TRS slip on. Was a fairly easy install and totally worth it. Sounds great!

Cleaned and lubed the chain, checked the oil and coolant, now to wash it.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Lubed chain after riding it. CBF washing my bike, but a sponge bath may or may not happen. Washing is so impersonal, but a sponge bath.... ahhh.... brings us closer together  ;) ;)

I washed both mine today, a degreaser wash to get them sparkling clean underneath.

Got started on things for upgrading Quin to flip. So took out springs and drained oil from my pile of forks. Started replacing seals for Quin, friend's bike and the up coming bike builds. Newer forks? Whatever - can't poke the seals out. Was able to get 2 of 5 opened up so far (they used really good thread lock!)

Found one set had Sonic springs! Not sure what size yet. Still a pleasant surprise.

One set had adjustable fork caps.

Even though some had pits and dings, none were in the "working" part of the tube so I think all are good to put back together and fill with oil.

(I do not know how I ended up with so many sets of forks.)

Well, me and the GS are about two thirds of the way through a 480 mile ride from Upstate SC, to West Florida. With a five hour lay over at Six Flags in ATL.

Get with the program!

Yesterday i was able to re-jet, and upgrade the carb to stainless screws and on top of it all i (somehow) managed to get the airbox AND the carbs seated properly inside the frame (Imagine that!)

Busy day.
Started out at that place that sells disposable tools that does cargo down by the water - oh, Harbor Freight!
Got a wide variety of stuff (email coupons came in today) and got that much needed electric impact driver for like $35 with coupons and on sale. Guy at HF was really nice and helped me find everything I needed.
Then finished rebuilding 6 sets of forks.
Hanging up to finish draining old stuff.

Then oompaloopa came over to work on his bike which is "for sale". After what we did, it might not be. In exchange I got another Gel Seat!
We started with this:

It needed new tires, forks rebuilt, front fender, clutch lever and even the clutch switch.
In progress:

We ended up with this.
1. Replaced both wheels from white to black with really good tires. The white rims will be for one of my bike builds and I had an excess of black rims.
2. Clutch lever and as can be expected - broken clutch safety switch.
3. New/used black front fender
4. Rebuilt the forks and put in 15w plus 2009 springs. hey, springs were free from ones I was rebuilding and a definite improvement over the 1994 springs. and that 1994 oil smelled worse than a cat liter box. Really!
5. Put in new Iridium plugs (I had a stash but don't use them once I switched to Brisk so another freebie)
6. Replaced burnt bulbs
7. Put OEM blinkers back on the rear
8. Verified voltage regulator working correctly (because some bulbs were burnt out)
9. Assorted --->  put on original OEM cable clips and brackets that were missing and replaced many screws with what should be there.

In all a fun day! Hope he keeps the bike. He had the rare privilege of getting to ride Junior AND Suzi. Now he knows what his GS500 can be. We can rebuild him. We have the technology.

(Now that Junior is officially a "Show Bike" at the December Seattle International Motorcycle Show, he is off limits to all but a rare, select few.)

Now with black wheels and the other upgrades. Looks good enough to keep! And rides a whole lot better.

Well, the Bike Cave got a little messy today.

FYI: All this started because he tried to ride his bike with a rear disc brake lock on and really literally shattered the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. OEM price for one was a fortune. Someone told him I probably had one - which I did. and that's how it all began. I guess my parts whoring reputation is well known.

I know - pictures or it didn't happen. Well, I went to take a picture of the shattered part and he took it home.

Coda: So if I came to visit, what airport would I fly to?

Either Brissy international, or coolangata international.

Ouch! $14,000 first class to Brisbane (Brissy?). What is "coolingata"?  I need KINGS ENGLISH to do an airline search.

adidasguy

OK - getting down to $7000 IF and ONLY IF I go COACH part of the way.
Looking at around Halloween (assuming there is something exciting at Halloween down there).

For Halloween: I wear NON-adidas clothes. Maybe ride a NON-0Gs500 bike.

Coolangatta Airport but I think its called Gold Coast Airport now?

Halloween is not celebrated the same here as it is in the states.

Plenty of places to ride though
