Yes, I've got rust on my pipe (not the headpiece).  I've been told that sandblasting is the only solution...anyone have any other suggestions?

it's not the only solution, but it's the best and easiest.  you can take your pipes off and go over them with a wire brush attachment on your dremel or drill and that will take most of the rust off.  then use some rust removed.  check the local autoparts store.  they should have naval jelly or the like.  that should get the finer rust off.  then, clean, let dry, and spray with BBQ paint or high temp paint.  (make sure you use REAL high temp paint, i got a can that was supposed to hold up to 500F and it's melting off.)

Yes 1200 F minumum, most exhaust paints are 1500. I like barbeque paint, its flat black and works well and cheaper than auto store crap. The auto store stuff blisters easy IMHO. Enamel paints crap out fast.
Cool.

Hi-T

I picked up a used vance and hines and it was nice and rusty-  I went to home depot and bought a rust removing coumpund- like naval jelly that ate most of the.  I then hit it with an angle grinder w/ a wire brush attached and smmothed it down.  Hit it with several coats of bbq paint and you're ready to rock.  No problems with the paint coming off or new rust.
