I did a search but all of the post were several years old and I want more recent feedback.
Who is using or have used Pinlock or other anti fog devices and how do you like them?

My brothers and I run several cars in the 25hour race at Thunderhill in December and its a very cold and wet affair. When the pit crew are fueling the cars we always have issues with the full face helmets fogging up. It sucks when you are all suited up in a firesuit, jumpimg over walls and handling fuel jugs at 3am and you are pretty much just guessing what you are looking at  ;)

Thanks!

I have a pinlock system on my HJC CL-16 and it works perfect.  I have never fogged once.  There is increase glare though, especially at night.

I've been using pinlock visors for the past 4 years or so.

- Anti-fogging properties are good, so long as you have a good fit between the pinlock insert and the visor. Great for cold t-hill mornings (I know this from personal experience.)

- If you're going to rely on tinted inserts, make sure you can get the Max inserts/visors. I have standard visors, and too much sunlight comes in over the top of the insert for tinting to help protect against glare. It could still be good for reducing eye fatigue. The colored inserts (yellow) might be useful to you, but that's personal preference as much as anything.

- The insert is very soft. If you handle them a lot, expect them to scratch. I usually install the insert and leave it alone. Don't plan on using the inserts to convert from tinted to non-tinted on a daily basis. Sunglasses or extra shields are a better bet for that. Removing the visor can be handy in an emergency, though. I usually get 6 months to a year out of an insert before I have to toss it.

- I've never had an issue with glare, but I'm pretty used to the visors. You really can't use them with polarized sunglasses however - the resulting colors will make you feel like you're on an acid trip.

- The visors can be difficult to clean. Instructions are to use water only. My approach is to try to keep the insert clean, and then toss it when it gets too dirty. The inserts aren't super cheap, so it's not terribly economical to treat them as a disposable product.

I raced with them, and again, they were awesome for cold mornings. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Burning1 has hit all of the major points.

I have used this on my HJC helmet for about a year with 7000 miles of use.  I agree that there is some glare at night, but for normal driving, I have no issues.

Looking closely, the insert says "for daytime use only"  That's probably due to the glare.  Not horrible glare, but a bit noticeable.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

In Qld, possibly the same Australia wide it is illegal to have a tinted visor at night.

I've been using it im my past two helmets as all Nexx come with a Pinlock in the box.
The glare there is, is noteacable at night when you pass trough street lighs, and sometimes at day when sun is hitting you in certain way. Anyway, I don't find it bad enought to mess with my riding.

As for the fog...you can have your helmet driping condensation drops through your neck and that part of the visor stays clear. Works really, really well!
One thing I didn't know, was that the insert were disposable...
Burning1, you toss them when they are scratched, dirty...? BTW, thanks for the polarized glasses tip!  :icon_mrgreen:

Yep. I've tried to wash them, but the dirt can be hard to remove without damaging the visor. I find the clarity of a fresh visor is worth the price. I can get inserts at the local shops, but they are also available online. Just make sure that whatever visor you're using is actually pinlock compatible.

BTW... It looks like Pinlock is now selling a transition insert. I haven't had a chance to try it, but I am interested.

The company makes a race insert for the RF1000/1100 helmets, which covers up to the top of the visor. The Pinlock Max inserts which cover the entire visor don't appear to be available for most helmets. The Arai RX7 does get them. Not sure if any Shoei model does.
