Bockinboy,

I found excessive vibration when using a mount like that - but - my camera did not have a wider angle option. That is, it didn't shoot wider footage than what was seen with the naked eye. ALSO, have seen cameras mounted on bikes with a normal 1/4 screw pull the 1/4 female part right out of the camera. Cannot see how yours attaches at the back, just something to be aware of.  :thumb:

I was worried about the vibration, too.  So everything is surrounded with rubber, some of which you can see surrounding the 1/4" bolt.  I wasn't aware of the femal end pulling out as being a problem; however, the camera I am using is super lightweight so I don't think I'll be too concerned by this.

I did a short video on the way to work this morning with the VGA setting (low quality) and there was a bit of rippling at around 6krpm.  But when I switched to HD recording, it was very clear.  I have 'misplaced' my SDHC card, so I only had the small amount of onboard video storage which translated to a 15 second HD recording, and 68 second VGA - So hardly worth a real test, but it looks promising so far.

Installed EMGO rear foot pegs for a GSXR in the rider position on the new GS. 5 minutes with a bench grinder and good to go.

Welcomed a new member to the West Seattle GS500 Club. He's been lurking on the board since he bought the GS500 from oompa last week and already put 500 miles on it (he's still deciding on a name). It was great to see that bike again and the new owner.

Like I said, he's been lurking on the board and will now sign up. So I hope the gods of the board grant him full access right away.

I'll wait for him to do his own introduction. But here he is after we replaced a brake lever (guess why!), tightened up the engine bolts and learned how to get the bike on and off the center stand without it falling over  :icon_lol:

Sent him home with a spare Haynes manual and a 24x36 color print of the GS wiring diagram.

I made a camera mount using the guide from the wiki - with my own slight modification of course.

After Paint:

Dude be careful of that mount without the camera on it. Looks like it could hurt in a mishap. Do the vibes from the bars transfer to the camera with it set up there?

BockinBboy

I noticed vibes at 6k rpm on the screen with low quality VGA (started rippling), but went away by 6.5k rpm.  It doesn't seem to move the least bit honestly.  Its out of the wind and under the windscreen.  There is THICK rubber underneath the PVC 'T', thinner rubber beneath the clamps, rubber packed inside the cap (under the bolt), and rubber surrounding the bolt all the way up against the camera.

But wares thrown up on the board have made me cautious.  Once I find my SDHC card, I'll try to post up a video, but I may give up on the hunt and have to break down and buy a new one...

Rode it for 10 miles today! It may not seem like much....but this is the first time the bike has actually run well since I bought it two or three months ago. Going for 20 miles tomorrow with some highway cruising, and if it can survive that, I'm moving it up to my brother's place (~50 miles, mostly highway) on Friday.

Bit the bullet and paid someone to install exhaust, intake, sprockets/chain, jetting and fuel line. $150. I could of possibly done some of this myself but was afraid of f%$king it up. I have a hard enough time with the cosmetic "improvements"

Got my Sonic Springs in the mail yesterday.  Installed them the "lazy" way.  Started, took it for a test ride.  Laid it down in the local round about  :thumb:  Id like to think I hit a dirt spot, as I have seen them in the round about before.  But I didn't see one.  Just came in what must have been a little too hot and washed out the front end.

Damage:  Dented tank.  Broken mirror. Scraped muffler. Front wheel/handlebar out of alignment.  (Thinking its either twisted bars or tubes twisted in clamps. Will evaluate at a later date).

I have a few scrapes.  Fortunately I had spurned the lazy way of wearing jeans by going ATGATT and I have just two nickel sized rub marks on an elbow and a knee.

I can say that the bike was handling AWESOME (SS .90kg/mm, SV650 Shock, Clubman bars).  I recommend those mods to anyone.  Quick and easy and do make a difference.  I could tell the springs helped because when I got on the bike the headlight beam was higher and my mirrors were pointed down a little too much.

Lesson learned.

$150 is not a bad price for all of that work... that being said, I hope it was done well.   But all that is beside the REAL point I wanted to make...

PICS?!?!

Good that you are okay.  The bike can be fixed.

I love how you spring back with (paraphrase following) 'Even though I dropped it, the bike handles great now!'

No sarcasm meant here.  I just love the attitude!

Haven't really done anything for the bike, but I have bought stuff for the bike. Got some Bikemaster bar end mirrors to go with my clubmans, bought a Katana rear shock, ordered some 0.9 Sonic Springs, and am thinking about getting a stripe for the middle of the bike.

I'm definitely fortunate that it didn't end worse.  My toe feels awfully funky, but i'll take that in exchange for anything else.

Rode into work this morning on the 600.  Hair of the dog that bit you will have to wait until I sort out my wheel alignment.

Bike running strange.  Upon inspection, left carb loose and 1/2 out of boot. Strange. Popped back in and runs good now.

Parking light went out (front). It was an el cheap o led. Put in stock. Works.

Checked oil. 1/4 quart low. Topped off.

Checked tire pressure. 5 psi low front and back. Will go fill up tomorrow.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Shaddow

Happened Tuesday but only got out of hospital yesterday (so its Friday in Australia now) but I believe I may have written the bike off. Barrel rolling the bike appears to be unhealthy for me and the bike.

ThatOtherGuy

Ouch, hope you're okay, though a hospital stay doesn't sound too good.  The bike might be terminal if that's the case.

Shaddow

Yea not a completely happy end but I'm walking just can't use my right hand for a few months.
