Haven't done much in the past week, but here's where I'm at -

- the new crank shaft arrived and looks to be in perfect shape.

- from what I understand, there will be markings/numbers on the crank and case that will determine what size bearings I need to order

- I will also be pulling the head off to check pistons, and helicoil the remaining two valve cover bolt holes

Out of curiosity, what caused the low oil condition to begin with? Bad oil pump?

as far as i know, the problem started somewhere between the seat and the handlebars.

Sounds like you've got it narrowed down then.   :woohoo:

Got the color codes I need for the bearings - 4 x camshaft bearings, 2 x counterbalancer bearings, 2 x connecting rod bearings.

I got the manual, which makes it clear as day. Find marking on shaft, find marking on case, look up the intersection on the table, and there you go.

Other parts to order:

"Suzuki Bond" for re-sealing the lower case
Suzuki OEM assembly lube
Head Gasket
Generator gasket
Clutch plate gasket

I will come back and edit in the OEM part numbers for everything - I just don't have my notes page with me right now.

Ok, I have everything apart, and the pistons seem to be a awfully carboned up.  I don't have any experience though. Anyone have an opinion?

The cylinders seem good to me also, but the same question about the carbon buildup on the valves:

ok good, so it's just a matter of cleaning, not replacing.

is it indicative of any problem with the motor, or is this buildup usual?

thanks

Normal for an engine of its type that hasn't changed in forever (carbon v/s FI) . Also lower quality fuel
