Never ran across one cheap enough to justify putting on my cheap little GS.
Also never been in a situation where I thought one would help.

Looking for an aftermarket bolt-on affair. Forks are on the way 35 Motorsports getting all dressed up and ready to slay some backwoods. I rode Sunday with a 70-100mph pace with my fellow Junkies and while the 2005 Katana rear shock was OK the front left a little to be desired even with Sonic Springs (2 levels below what they recommend-previous owner was smaller than me) and unknown oil viscosity.

I would like to add a nice-preferably adjustable-damper.

I don't think a steering damper is going to solve your problems. It sounds like you need to do spring load and fork rebound damping work.

I agree. Match up that rear suspension with a set of Kat forks.

I don't think a steering damper will help you if the suspension is done right. There is a hellacious bumpy curve in my area. The front is really taxed, in all dimensions, handle bar waggles left and right and would freak you out. But as soon as smooth pavement returns, the front settles down nicely.  I even have a boss welded on the frame for a steering damper but feel no need to put one on.

That's why the forks are on the way to 35 Motorsports. They are getting Gold Valves, custom drilling of the damping rods, 15wt. oil and .95 springs. Rueben knows how to set up suspension. The damper would just be the icing on the cake.

Raced without one. The steering geometry on the GS500 is very conservative. It's definitely possible to cause it to go into a tank slapper, but you don't absolutely need a damper the way a modern 600 does. I did some extremely fast cornering over some bumpy track without too much issue. I also jumped a few curbs. At those lean angles, wheel hop was a much more significant problem than the damper.

You definitely don't need a super fancy adjustable damper for the GS500. A stock damper from a 600 would be plenty - enough to stop a major slapper if it happens, but not so much to get in the way.

You might be able to buy an adjustable rod style damper for ~$200-$300 and weld on tabs if you insist, however. I doubt you'll find a bolt-on damper for the GS.
