Sigh. I'm dealing with more obstacles in my way to two-wheeled happiness.

I'm now riding again regularly...
and I notice I'm also losing a lot of hair

not in patches, but somewhat evenly.

I read that wearing a helmet CAN actually contribute to this.
(it's called "friction based alopecia" or something like that)

Suggestions here and there suggest wearing a head sock or some such.

Anyone faced the same issue?
Did it actually help?
I'm feeling somewhat sceptical, as though I'm probably going to lose the hair anyway. (my beard is thinning out a bit).

but .... if its going to help, i guess its worth it.

if it's not going to help though... i have enough gear to put on as it is!

I don't understand the obsession some men have with going bald. I shave my head cause my hair is like a bloody rug on my head and living in a climate like Florida is sucks the big one. So a Zero blade going over every few weeks is the order of the day for me. Cooler head. Nice 

But as to your friction concern. Try a slightly smaller helmet that doesn't move around so much maybe? Or, just fergeddiboudit

i shave my head.  i wear a balaclava or skullcap so the sweat doesnt soak into my helmet.  it seems like that sort of thing might help keep the friction off the hair, but mother nature catches up with us all eventually.  we cant all look like this guy -->

I am bald on top with just a friar's ring around the edges. I wear a very thin balaclava most of the time and find it very comfortable, even in warmish weather (up to 30 degC). Over 30 deg it gets a bit warm but I still wear it until it gets too hot (35+).

+1, I shave my head everytime I shave my face, thats every 3/4 days. The biggest drawback on the helmet thing is that after two days my head feels like a velcro strip, so the helmet interior comes attached...anyway, the balaclava takes care of that.

I started losing my hair really badly 5 years ago, and I'm 26. At first I tried some special shampoo's, minoxidil, I just didn't go for those things that make your balls shrink. I think the biggest factor was testosterone producing activities, like fighting, sex and gym time, which I started doing more. Baldness to me is a family thing, but I already passed my dad!!
Look to guys trainning hard at gym or fighting hard, most have their head shaved and you can really see those bald patches in the shaved head...
BTW, girls love it, even if they say no, after one month they will go crazy with the badass look!

i started to loose my hair about 10yrs ago so its no big deal for me. i shave my head with a number 1 blade all over, the wife loves it. so relax and enjoy the ride.
for a lot of people its just another aspect of growing old, don't fight it embrace it. 

I wear bandannas when I ride, to absorb sweat and keep my hair out of my face/off my forehead when I put my helmet on. They could help with your issue, if you're opposed to shaving your head.

all  my bald patch is from blanket friction! 

over the years i started with a #5 cut ... then#3 ... then #1 .. now just straight clippers ... do it myself in the bathroom mirror cos i aint payin $20 for &^$K all work by a barber!

the super short actually helps with air flow around my mongy old skull in the helmet ...

and it IS the IN thing.... even look at all the emoticons when you post.... only 1 ! has hair ... weirdo he is!
