Hi All

I'm sure somebody probably has a thread about this but thought I would start my own. I am looking to get some panniers and a tail bag to do some overnight rides. Big enough to fit clothes, shoes and toiletries etc. I would also like to do some overnight camping in the future as I have some good hiking stuff that packs away really small and is very light weight. Can anybody recommend anything? Had a look on the web and there seems to be quite a few brands. Of course I am always looking for the cheapest alternative but something that will last a while too.

Cheers

I use Oxford panniers, but I was happy to pay for them to get the lifetime warranty and they are such that they will go from bike to bike for my lifetime, so to me a good investment.  however one thing I will say is that no matter what the claims are about water proof capabilities, just go to a camping/hiking store and buy waterproof liner bags and store everything in them before placing in the pannier.  water will always find a way in, so best to protect it inside the pannier.

A Ventura is a good place to start
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Using Ventura rack/bag/panniers on the GS for the camping trips. Strong fabric construction but zips are a but suspect. Find the Ventura panniers' openings make loading clumsy. Protection under panniers needed to prevent scratches on the plastics.

I have the ventura rack and bag - that's the way to go, can fit heaps on them; and ventura tail bag as well, but even at expandable they're too small for anything other than a pair of shoes plus bits and pieces
