When I first start up my GS it idles perfect right at 1200rpms.  However when I ride for 15 minutes or so every time I roll up to a stop it idles at 3000-3500rpms.  Havent had any problems in performance but I get strange looks at traffic lights cause my bike sounds like its ready to take off.  Anyone have similar problems/solutions?

Hmmm... check your plugs and see what color they are... might be running lean.  Lean running makes RPM go up when idle.  It's kinda like what happens when you put the choke on while starting, it leans the mixture out and the RPM's go up.  So, you probably need to adjust the mixture screw on the carbs.  Did you change any parts recently... like does it have an aftermarket exhaust or air filter?

Oh yeah...  search for old posts that are related to your problem using the Search link above... there's a ton of good advice on diagnosing and fixing your problem!  Hehe I am too lazy to point those posts out though, since I haven't had the problem you have had ;)  Search for stuff like 'rising idle' 'running lean' and other key words :)

You didn't say whether you use the choke when you start the bike.

In my experience (especially on a cold day) the bike won't catch and run when I press the Start button unless the choke lever (on the left handlebar) is pulled back.  If your bike idles at 1200 right after it's started -- without the choke --  then your idle may be adjusted too high.

I let the engine run for a while with the choke on.  As it warms up (and the revs at idle go up to 3000+) I push the choke lever in a little more at a time, until it is all the way forward and the idle is at 1200.  This may or may not involve a little fiddling with the idle adjustment screw (see this photo).

If you read and remember enough posts, you don't even have to stay at a Holiday Inn to be an instant expert on a subject!
BTW, I've never checked my plugs, my idle only rises about 200 rpm from cold to hot *grin* I suppose I should get industrious and swap out my plugs anyways, since I dunno if they have ever been replaced on my 8 yr old bike

i have the same problem. after riding about 10min, then stopping and killing the engine, and restarting does erase this problem however.
i think i will put it in the mechanics shop, in a month or so.
