I cannot believe I've read all 27 pages.

Do you have the bike finished yet finally without any more to do? And any pics to update with.

Sad to say, I just did the same (even though I have a massive exam in about 14 hours that I am severely underprepared for)....I wanted to see the progress as it happened! Very interesting thread though, even if I made it all the way to the end and still no finished product :(

Hope the project is still going!

Funny how in the beginning it was like, should be done in a month just waiting on a part. Now years later we all sit on the edges of our seats to see the finished product.

that rear tire is placed? 150 60 17/150 70 17 or 160 60 17? thank you very much!

I saw this bike for sale on my local craigslist a few months ago.  I don't know if it ever sold though.

I did indeed sell the bike.  I moved and don't have a good place to store or work on the bike anymore.  The new owner has made some progress.  I'll try to get him to update this thread with his work or start a thread of his own.  I really hated to let it go.

Hey guys for all that were following comiccharlie's build, I bought bike now! I could tell he was reluctant to let it go and its been about a year since Ive had it but havent got around to get it running till a couple months ago. I bought it w/ it not running and that is a first for me. But I saw all the work he had done from this forum and knew everything was legit! LOVE the bike and where he was going w/ it, never thought a gs500 could look like this. He has put a lot of work and time into it and left the easy stuff for me, so w/ that said he sold it to me knowing I would finish it and keep him updated. The motor issue was dirty carbs and then the cdi went bad the next day LOL :icon_sad:. I finished all the wiring and installed a new battery which weighs nothing, expensive but worth it! I didnt have to do much to button everything up and get it on the road. The modified ducati exhaust sounds great, has a thump to it when at idle and not to loud when riding. Once I got to ride it I noticed the top speed was 55mph but not sure what the rpms were bc I dont have a tach on it yet but I could hear the motor was hating it. Turned out it had a 15 and 47 sprockets on it so I put a 17 upfront and put a 39 which is stock since I ride it everyday to work and its about a 25 mile commute on the HWY. W/ the new sprockets I can cruise at 70 all day long at a low RPM. I repainted alomost everything he had done, sorry Charles, but wasnt my style but I did it all right. Now the only problem I have is a small oil leak coming from the RT side and top of the head, only leaks when it sits for a while, trying to figure that out. Here are some photos of what it look liked when I bought it and now. Tell me what yall think.

This is what I did after I bought it.

Installed LED indicator lights for the oil and neutral light. GPS for speedo.

Welcome and 'preciate the update for sure, looks great Austin! Glad to see it buttoned up and on the road

I do miss the subie colors, but it still looks damn fine with the current colors!
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

GSBRY

That is one cool GS.  Just wondering, how do you know what rpm you are running at?

Oh hey Austin, nevermind my question about the tach.  I noticed you said there wasn't one.  Your oil leak is probably coming from the valve cover gasket.  My bike was doing the same thing.  Gaskets are pretty cheap and easy to replace.

Well Im right now looking to getting a Trail Tech Vapor Computer which will tell me the rpm, speed and temp. So looks like im about to get rid of the gps. does anyone have any experience w/ the Vapor gauges, good or bad?

steezin_and_wheezin

I picked up a Vapor recently for the shredped project, haven't got time to install it though. I have been running the Trail Tech's smaller temp gauge for a few months now with no troubles. I've always heard good things about the Vapor when I had the drz, lots of drz owners replace their digi gauge cluster with one.

Got any photos of someone on the bike?
