My 1989 GS500E was totaled in a TC on the 405 in LA in September (check out my close call on the NEW bike two months later and less than 8/10s a mile away:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XS5uXyyb0k).  With the insurance, I was able to purchase a 2004 GS500F.

The Vance & Hines slipon on my 1989 GS500 was louder (and had a nice rumble) than the stock muffler on my 2004 GS500.

I would like to swap them out, but before I waste my time pulling the plastics off and etc I hope someone can tell me if I can switch the pipes.  (Worst case I end up cutting the muffler off the 2004 and slipon the 1989 Vance and Hines.

Yes. They all fit.

Make sure you are allowed to use the older ones on your bike where you live. I am sure someone else here will elaborate

All years will fit from what I am told.

The newer models had additional catalysts in the exhaust for the EPA/Emissions.  If you live in a state where they do not check motorcycle emissions, you are OK.

It is amazing how these bikes change so little model year to model year that 1989 pipes fit on a 2004.

How often can you take a part from a 15 year older bike and have it fit?  Not very often!

IMHO, i think they should have put some thought into fuel injection in the last 10 years. Maybe they'll release a gs500 in the next few years with EFI to keep up with the competition. Suzuki must be gettin slammed in the entry level market

Fuel injection costs money for r&d, mapping firmware, and electronics.

Why mess with a good thing?  Even the ninja 250/500 carb versions are a pita to work on.

In general I totally agree with you. I like that I can work on my carbs easily. But still think the lack of fuel injection is bitter sweet
