Center stand and links installation

So I recently purchased suspension links from a member of the forums.

I also bought a side stand and center stand from ebay.

Tonight, I thought I'd put the center stand on so that I could put the new links on.

Unsurprisingly, the longer links on the bike currently are in the way of the center stand. I now understand how longer links lower the bike a bit.

Here's some pics

Here's my question.

How do i put the old links back on without the bike being on the center stand?

The haynes manual I have says that it should be on the center stand and the back wheel should have some support (like a bunch of wood) under it to avoid putting weight on it.

Any ideas on how I can get the new links put in without a center stand and without damaging it too much?

the exhaust is ghetto rigged and i'm hoping that won't get in the way.

Thanks all.

Your pics show the centerstand mounted to the frame so you should be able to get the bike up on the stand.  With lowering links it can be much more difficult to get it up because the stand hits the floor at a bad angle.  Putting a piece of 2x6 under the rear tire to raise the bike rear is very helpful with a lowered bike to make the lift onto the stand easier.

The centerstand wouldn't hit the suspension link like that if you had a standard exhaust with the rubber bumper that stops the centerstand in the up position.

that center stand isn't mounted. i just put the bolt on so i could try and mount it.

but the bike has been lowered which is why the center stand won't go back on.

i just bought it.

Dude, put a nut on the bolt!
Just because you can't swing the stand up and ride the bike doesn't mean you can't push the center stand down and use it.
Unless there's something we're not seeing. . .

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

That's a good point. I thought the springs help to keep it in place but it should still work without the springs to get the bike up and keep it up there.

Thanks. I'll try and give that a shot.

Based on this picture, can anyone tell me which springs go where?

I have two springs for this center stand. the haynes manual isn't clear on where they go.

Forget the springs until the links are changed.  Many  with altered exhaust systems remove their centerstand and just put it back on with the 2 bolts only to use it to work on the bike and then take it back off again.

My bike was lowered and had no center stand. It's back to stock height now and I never put the center stand back on. When I need it it just stick a long screwdriver in the bolt holes to hold the stand on temporally while I work on it. No nuts, bolts or springs....just a screwdriver.  Much easier than moving exhaust each time to to get that bolt back in (on mine the one bolt will not go in/out without moving the exhaust out of the way).
Why are you looking here?

I noticed that too but my exhaust is pretty ghetto rigged so i'm hoping that's going to make things easier.

are you can see, it's held on with wire. Classy  :thumb:

That's my next project this winter. to replace the exhaust.

next year get it cleaned and rejetted in time for riding.

thanks!
