So i'm in the process of upgrading my forks and after taking the forks apart I realize that there are parts missing. So I am looking to just buy a new set of forks and I have located forks from a 1983 gs550. So question: would these forks fit my 2000 gs500e? Any help would be great, thanks.

Should be a direct fit, as far as im aware there's only one fork size used.

The springs in your one might be a little better, but you can always take both sets apart and make one good set.

Tube dia might be the same but by comparing pics of the two bikes I can see a lot of subtle differences......what are your plans for the wheel, brakes and fender etc?

I don't think they are the same diameter - the 1983 550 probably has 35mm forks.

Why not just find the parts you need, or even another set of GS500 forks? There should be plenty around......
