I'm planning to do fork seals pretty soon, and since the dust seals seem pretty cracked/rotted i wanted to replace them as well.  I can find the fork seals readily, but I can't seem to find dust seals anywhere in 'Merica - just in the UK and NZ.  Does anyone have a recommendation on where to get these without crossing an ocean?  I can get them from a dealer, but at 17.90.  EACH.

On ebay buy fork seals and dust caps as a set. Cheaper that way.

I am not sure how you are searching ebay. Most are in the USA. Then there's always bike bandit,  powersportsplus, partsunlimited and quite a few other mail order places.

The exact same part is used on mid 80s GPz 750s and 1100s....and some other Kwaks from that era but I cant remember which ones 

I believe that I got mine through BikeBandit, or I was going to.  I had to order it after I reassembled because I discovered that the PO had gauged it with a screwdriver and exposed the inner spring causing it to rust slightly.

i got the ones adidasguy linked to.  it just irritates me that i can get seals for 10 bucks, but to add the dust seal is $20 more?

I can't figure it out: the fork seals are always cheaper than the dust caps.

Fork guards are a good idea: most seal damage is due to a ding on the fork tube. That will protect them.

this might get me flamed, but what about accordion style boots?  i have seen them on some retro-style bikes and think they look pretty cool, plus they would catch a lot of crap.

Dennis Kirk has the dust seals alone (at least for the '95 GS5) as well as oil seal/dust seal sets.  The link should take you to parts for the '95 model -- the seals are down a ways from the top (viewed with 100 items per page).  They have a full set for $37.99 and the dust seals only for $17.99 -- both items are for two forks.

Notice the low price on the seals and the dust caps (wipers) on this fiche at ronayers?  These parts were both superceded with newer part numbers for 1998-2000.  I discovered that if you order the old part numbers from ronayers, they will send you the new superceded parts for the price listed here for the old!  It's a good deal for genuine Suzuki OEM parts.

I'm not disagreeing with bombsquad, and I'm not trying to push Dennis Kirk, but you have to consider shipping price as well as whether you want oem/non-oem.

For oem, I always go to Ron Ayers, but their shipping is high -- for just the seals and/or dust seals, I'd guess about $18.00 based on ordering from them before.  I think this is because they get the parts from elsewhere and then ship them to you -- sort of a double shipping cost. The upside is you get oem parts. If non-oem is ok, you can probably get a better total price somewhere else.

It all depends on what's most important to you.

Shipping from ronayers for just that order alone would be around $8 I believe.  For large orders it might be up to $16, and it might depend on where you live too.  You just have to price it out.

I wish I knew how Ron Ayers did their shipping calculations.  I've ordered twice from them recently -- multiple items, but all small enough that everything came in a small box, and the shipping for each was ~$18 to western PA.  If they are charging based on shipping to them and then to you, that makes sense, especially if the parts are coming from separate suppliers.  Like you said, if total cost is a real issue, just comparison shop a little before you buy.

I'm pretty sure I've gotten the superceded price for some things from there -- I didn't know it at the time, but got new part numbers when I ordered using the old.  Like I said, for anything oem, I use Ron Ayers.

p.s. -- I meant NOT trying to push Dennis Kirk.  Sorta changes the whole meaing of what I posted, huh.
