Whats up guys, I've been lurking around here for a while, figured I would finally start a post. I got my hands on a 90' GS500 in a barter, helped my buddy put an engine in his car and the bike was mine. Cleaned the carbs and changed the oil and she was on the road. 11k miles. Just started some winter projects, nothing major. I fab'd a set of clip ons out of steel and mounted them above the triple trees. Also shortened the stock mirrors 2.5", wanted to keep the stocks because I'm not a fan of bar end mirrors. Mounted some Trucklite LED lights over the reflectors at the corners, they're kind of subtle and a little extra light around the bike doesnt hurt. Also installed a ShoMe strobe in the taillight in place of the stoplight bulbs. Brake lights flash like police strobes now. Now I'm in the middle of adjusting the valves and some other little things. Thinking about a Katana rear wheel and a 150 or 160 tire. I could post some pics of the mods if anyones interested. Thanks for all the helpful info so far!

I also shortened the turn signal stalks 1.5", makes them look a lot cleaner imo. I love the bike and have put a couple hundred miles on it so far. I dont want to make a major project of it, I just want to ride it. Damn these connecticut winters!

Very nice work and welcome to the Site. You obviously are good with your hands and have a few skills so I think it's going to interesting to see what you do with the bike.

I like those clip-ons, you made them yourself?

Feel like making me some that won't hit my tank?  ;) Hard to find for the F model.

Yes they're home made. I do a bit of fabricating and welding at work so I figured why not try it. Not sure how they would fit an "F" though!

Yup, fairings and a bigger tank come into the matter. Done my research, thinking about just going stock again. Too much work for an inexperienced person like myself.

As mentioned in my write up on OEM clip-ons, European type 1 will fit. The other 2 types will fit if shimmed.

Replace Connecticut with Michigan, and I feel your pain.

Also I really like the idea of the LED over the reflectors. On my GS the PO removed all the reflectors and painted the bike semi-flat black. Needless to say, not feeling safe about riding at night.

Haha yea I'm sure Michigan is no picnic in the winter. I figured the red and yellow were already there so why not make lights out of them. If it gives the wife a little piece of mind then its worth it. I guess. Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Yes Adidasguy, I read all your stuff on clip ons. I know were referring to the F, but in my case I wasn't sure if I was going to like them or not so I didn't want to spend the money on them. I haven't ridden on mine yet, so time will tell.

I went with the Suburban  Machinery  clubman bars.   Practically just bolt on...  Eliminates most of the problems of trying to add clip-ons to the F .  I really like the riding position!

Yea I thought about the suburban machinery bars, we'll see how I like the clip ons first. I was also considering superbike bars.
