Thanks, appreciate the feedback.

Personally, I hope I never actually need to use it for its intended purpose, that would be ideal.

I leave a Google Map on the computer with the route visible, and stops. So my wife can see where we are going. I text at each stop. So there is always a Log of where we might be.

Guy at work is riding home frmo work around 3pm. Much faster than the speed limit and much faster than the car's expectations. Car pulls out from a side street with a bend. Guy looses control of his bike, runs off the road, is flung through the air, bounces of solid fence post and land in the bushes. He has broken things and cannot move. He calls the ambulance on his phone and passes out. He comes too and it is dark. His phone has gone flat. He still cannot move. He can see headlight beams cutting the bush. He raises a hand into the beam but is so far off the side of the road he remains unseen. He wets himself. He passes out again. He comes too again. Traffic is dead. He thinks to himself that unless he gets himself to near the road he will die here. Crying from the pain, he slow drags himself to near the road. Again he raises his arm as cars go by. Hours pass. It is starting to get light. He hears a car stop. Couple people approach. He thinks one is a woman but it's a feminine gey man. He is a bit of a homophobe so he thinks the worst - mugging etc. But they attend to him. They search and find his wallet in the scrub, call the ambulance - the same guys who responded first time respond again. He passes out before the ambos get there. Ambos visit him in hospital to apologize for thinking the first one was a hoax call cause there was no signs a bike had gone off the road.

THAT is why I dislike riding alone. Even signing in/out and with route on the computer, a bike makes such a small hole through the scrub it may not be noticed by people who may be looking.

Interesting story, but pretty much exactly accurate as to why I avoid it. Too easy to not be seen in the event of a crash...

Anyone in addition to AussieChick keen for Saturday? If so, meet us at the Caltex Arana Hills on Dawson Pde... be leaving there no later than 6:15am to head up to Power Circle... the Kat boys nickname for the roundabout in the middle of nowhere where they meet up. Oh, and fuel up at the Caltex too, they meet up fully fueled ready to roll.

Pete, here are some possible ways home Casino.

Route 1: Via Urbenville. The Bruxner is a nice stint, the leg which goes right up the guts to Urbenville (Bonalbo Rd) is a tad bumpy in places but it's still a good jaunt. Then back down the Twists to Rathdowney. The pub at Urbenvile does some nice food for pretty cheap.
Route 1

Route 2: Via Lions Rd. Heading back along the boring bit to Kyogle, you head along the Lions Rd until just before the main and also dull and boring bit to Beaudesert. Here you chuck a right, ride to the end, another right, blah blah as you can see by the map. This is a little known, but quite enjoyable alternate run into Beaudesert. Longer than the straight run from Rathdowney but more enjoyable in my opinion.
Route2

Route 3: Via Murwullimbah. Again this needs to head back to Kyogle. And it's a basic straight run along the Kyogle Uki Rd before it heads up Numinbah and eventually into Nerang. There are a few ways to head back into Nerang from M'bah - Tomewin Rd, via Bilambil (which gets you on the highway near Tweed Heads though).
Route 3

Route 4: Via The Channon. The road to The Channon is the dirt free way. If you take Pinchin Rd you will encounter dirt. So, ignore the 1st sign to The Channon and take the one at Koonorigan. Beware, from The Channon to Mullimbimby is tight and twisty and narrow. As you can see, from The Channon you can also come back via Nimbin and Uki back into M'bah and then home from there, or head back to Kyogle along Stoney Chute Rd. The pub at The Channon does some good tucker too.
Route 4

So there you are Pete, 4 routes back that are quite nice runs.

For a bit of an idea on the 1st one. This part of a video shows Some scenery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSp0KWMz8OQ&feature=player_detailpage&list=UUaUhIKyY3364x3CuDol_VJA#t=395s and this 11 min video shows the entire route to Urbenville http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spFYOf7SN5c

Personally, unless you want to do Route 1, there is no point riding down to Casino cause the trip back towards Kyogle is plain and dull and boring - why do it twice (once down to Casino and once back) if you don't need to? But going on from Casino to do Route 1 is a real nice run, plus Urbenville Lunch is good tucker ;)

NOTE: the Bonalbo Rd up to Urbenville is an unknown after this rain. Before riding route one as posted, call The Crown Hotel to confirm road conditions. Lions Rd was the only one open after the previous flood a couple of years back as Mt Lindesay had suffered a landslip on the Qld side and a landslide over the road on the NSW side. This video shows where those places were after the 2011 floods http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqPXfq5QBQQ

Cheers mate, that's a great help!

The Casino "start" is a definite, because it's not actually the start as such, it's simply the second stop for the Kat guys' trip to Armidale. First stop is only brief in Rathdowney, second stop is a half hour break in Casino, and that's where I'm riding to with them

Looks like route 1 is probably the best way, and the Kat guys have also planned to stop in at Urbenville on the way home due to the good lunch also.

The Casino departure time will be about 9:30, so will probably get to Urbenville a bit early for lunch though...

Any idea what Spring Creek and Carneys Creek Rds are like? Wondering if that might be a little more interesting a journey by turning left at Woodenbong rather than heading up to Rathdowney. Or even Tooloom Rd out of Urbenville and don't go as far as Woodenbong.

Essentially I've got a day out on the GS and I wanna make the most of it :D

Road conditions are definitely up for grabs at the moment... haven't watched the vid's yet but thanks for the links, will digest away as I get time :)

Pete! Not sure if you'll check this before the ride tomorrow - I hope so because I hate bailing on people!

I'm not 100% in for tomorrow now - depends really how the weather looks! Nearly got caught in the random "gusty" storm tonight if it wasn't for Slip's text to warn me...apparently the forecast for tomorrow will be an early shower or gusty storm, so I'll still be setting my alarm for 5:30 but I'll decide in the morning if the weather looks okay to ride in. I just don't find riding in the rain very fun :(

but we'll see, I'm still keen to ride, just not in crap weather.

Might see you tomorrow anyway, otherwise have an awesome ride!  :icon_mrgreen:

Carney ck rd had been damaged after the rain.

We call the road between woodenbong and legume "bumpybong". It is atrocious and the link from urbenville onto it is not much better.

Remember, nsw is on daylight saving. our time is 10.30 their time. Leave casino, pause for leg stretch at rest stop where bonalbo rd starts. You will not be there before lunch.

Azza

Yeah that Woodenbong road is CRAP. I heard it was because the area became the responsibility for another council and it's WAY out for them so they dont spend to much on it. Either way its a shocker.

AussieChick

Good ride this morning with PeteGS's Katana mates :D roads had mostly recovered, but one floodway was about 30cm deep so after one guy crossed (successfully) the rest of us did some akward turn around maneuvers and met up with him after at Daybro   :thumb:

Now...to ride again tomorrow with the OzBikers gang....
...

mister

Azza, those roads are the responsibility of the Tenterfield Council. They are as far away from Tenterfield as you can get. That's why they are only patched up at a minimum.

Mister: Thanks mate, I guess I'm just trying to find the most fun/interesting way back from Casino without ending up going back the Mt Lindsay Hwy again as that's the way we're heading down. I haven't been down that way for many years and never as far as Casino on a bike, so I'd like to mix it up a bit :)

I'll look a bit further and see what I can come up with.

You thinking you'll join us on the day?

AussieChick, thanks for coming along again yesterday, that was a great ride! Nice to get out with some clear blue skies for a change  :D

And some pic's of course... the crew:

And the view from the Pitstop cafe on Mt Mee where we stopped for a coke:

I've got Reg's aquatic adventure on video and I'll get some up this week as I get time to edit/save them.

Pete, I'll see what I've got on.

The Mt Lindesay twists are different on the way back. Yes it's the same road, but they feel different to ride downhill. I prefer riding them on the way back. Trust me, once you've ridden them To Casino you Will like riding them on the way back  :thumb:

Once at Rathdowney you can always ride back via Boonah. This way your entire route would look like this and not really any of it boring.

Casino To Samford

The way you Were thinking... via Legume and then Carney's Crk Rd, is the Queen Mary Falls Run. A nice run I enjoy better heading From Boonah and up the mountain. But the scenery is dope either way. You just need to wear a Kidney belt getting from Urbenville/Woodenbong to Legume. That Woodenbong-Legume stretch is known as the Mt Lindesay ROAD. It stops being the Mt Lindesay HIGHWAY at Woodenbong and becomes ROAD as it is deemed Not Worthy of carrying the title of Highway. It is the most crap sealed road I've ever ridden on. I've been on dirt tracks that are smoother. It's as if they just tarred and sealed over all the bumps without scraping it out. If you could instantly freeze the ocean with its small waves and so on, and then tar and seal it, you would get an idea of this road.

6:30am departure for Rathdowney, 15 minute stop there from 7:30 - 7:45 and onwards to Casino via Kyogle. Expect to be in Casino at 8:55.

Just another heads up, Pete. If you leave Rathdowney at 7:45 you will Not make Casino by 8:55 unless you exceed the speed limit everywhere you go by a good margin so that your Average Speed - straights and twists - is 102kph. Give yourself an hour to Kyogle and then another 20 to Casino.

Cods, if you can still make this, wanna join me for riding out to Rathdowney to meet up with the ride?

Signed up to SEQR as well ... I'm a member on Netriders but I really don't like the people on there.

Went down past Jimboomba on a couple hour ride yesterday with a friend from work, was a good day for it. Ran out of fuel less than 2km from home so we had a slow start - oh well I'm a noob and it had to happen sometime.

Going to start joining some of the other group rides soon, I just want to get ozzy to give my bike a major service first - getting worried that I know nothing about the service history and I have a bunch of chain noise (I think cam chain) that needs sorting out and it's pretty distracting.

ThatOtherGuy

Just approved you at SEQR, wondered where you hailed from. :thumb: :icon_lol:

Twisted

Went for a ride out along Splityard Creek and up Mount Glorious this morning. Got to the bottom of Glorious to be met with "Road Closed" barriers. Figured since I went that far I would go check it out and turn around when I came across the reason for the closure. The ride all the way to the lookout was fine. The ride past there not so good. A lot of debris and mud over the road. Finally got to a section about 2ks before the cafes where road workers were clearing big trees off the road. Turned around and went back after that. I wish Glorious was as quiet as it was all the time. I might have to invest in a set of "Road Closed" barriers I think and pull em out when I go.  :thumb:

mister

When we rode on the Closed Road ride....

... it was quite surreal to be riding on a road that was not in use and seeing all the debris and bad state of the road. Made me think of every post-apocalyptic movie I've even seen. And begs the question... in the zombie apocolypse etc. movies, who cuts all the grass cause the lawns stay short. Eg...

Long-ish in some places. But certainly not feral like you would expect.
