Should be regular intervals...

Quote# What is a reasonable oil-change interval?

Most manuals recommend not to exceed 8,000 miles after break-in. But short-trip riding is considered severe service and the most common oil change interval is 3,000 to 4,000 miles. However, a long trip is the easiest service for the oil and going 6,000 to 8,000 miles between changes while on a cross-country ride is routine. Also, the use of synthetic oils can easily double the oil-change interval.

# Will changing the oil even more frequently, like every 1,000 miles, prolong the life of the engine?

Not very likely, because even at 3,000 to 4,000 miles, the oil and additives are not degraded very much. Changing more often just wastes money.

# What about the claims that motorcycle-specific oils contain "special polymers which are resistant to breakdown caused by motorcycle transmissions?

Oils usually require the addition of polymers, called VI improvers, to create a multi-viscosity oil, like 10W-40. Whether it is a motorcycle oil or an automotive oil, all polymers are subject to some degradation in the transmission. Full synthetic oils tend to have less polymer than conventional oils and therefore degrade less.

Good choice. That's what I use on air-cooled bikes. The CF, CH-4 rating will give you more thermal stability on an air-cooled engine. It's not a synthetic oil so I'll stick with the regular maintenance schedule.

From what I've heard, it's supposed to be better on the clutch too. I've never confirmed this though.

Part of the fun here(ref. an above post) is what defines a short interval usage :dunno: .??

I have my own ideas, but I would like to hear others.

CHEAPER THAN EUROPE!!!!!

Forget europe, It's as much as 1.05 a liter here now, in Canada only hours from Maine.

That's like $3.50 or so american/ Gallon?

Muldoon

How about paying AUS$1.05per LITRE! Theres 4.2 Litres in a gallon, so we are paying about AUS$4.30 per US gallon. Glad I bought a bike!

Which still guzzles 5l / 100 km. Many small cars can do better and they transport four to five passengers plus luggage. There are many reasons why I prefer a bike over a cage, but fuel economy is not one of them.

chupacabrah

man.... i guess i've got no reason to whine about gas then, huh?   :o

why is it so much more expensive where you guys are than it is here?
especially canada???  :?

In short: Our governments believe in steering public behaviour through the hurt that are fuel prices.

(Plus they pay things that are used for traffic (roads...) or caused by traffic (hospitals...) with the revenue thus generated.

Stations are not price gouging. At least not most of them. The rise is comming from the refineries, which are probably caused by OPEC. THEY are the bastards.
