I had to save one more...after knowing that this GS500 was sitting for years in a garage, without going out, sunlight, neither fresh fuel was given to her, in the last 3 years!  :icon_eek:

I had to bring her home...the price was ok, doesn't need much...here she is:

Doesn't these two sisters look nice together?!

To-do:
Remove the rust around the battery drain area...almost all GS500 have rust in that area!!
Clean, tune and Rejet carbs;
Valve check/adjust;
Clean about 15 years of sh*t;
Change fork seals, oil and check if they are straight; Any tips for this??
Oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plug change;
Buy a nice suzuki emblem for that generator cover;

The bike had obviously a severe drop to the right...in the top yoke, the hole for the right leg of the fork is distorted/enlarged. Should I care about that?

Anything else I'm forgeting?!

Thanks!  :cheers:

Looks like she has a newer engine put in her... strap over the pillion seat (maybe seat from a gs450 overseas).. oh and the euro type-2 clip-ons it appears.

You may want to add bar-ends to the list as it looks the throttle side is missing.

Overall, looks like a decent find.  Good luck cleaning her up!

I like the color.
It is in Port. so you can expect thing to be different from the USA. I WISH seats had the strap we see there - just never had them in the USA. I have seen them on other pictures of GS500's from Europe.
Engine color is probably correct. Gray rims indicate should be 96-2000 and given color, probably 96. Correct?
Also I see adjustable fork caps.

SOMEONE OVER THERE PLEASE GET SOME ADJUSTABLE FORK CAPS FOR ALL OF US ACROSS THE POND! They were NEVER sold in the USA.

Forks straight when assembled: lay on table. Hold down the bottom part firmly on the table.  Spin the upper tube. If straight, the end of he tube will stay the same distance from the table. If bent, the end will go in a circle and change distance from the table top.

You can use a straight edge on the tubes. The bend would always start where it goes in the lower triple, and be in the lower part. Upper part being in both triples would rarely ever be bent.

lool!! A senseless bike! You're right about the bar ends, both are missing!

Adidasguy, bettween 1996 and 2000, correct! This one is a 98! The previous GS500 I had, was a 97 also, with those Five Stars fairings like you have.
They are very similar, the 97 just didn't have the strap...I don't like the strap, if the Atlantic was smaller I would trade it anyday for a standard seat. Sometime ago I heard that in Portugal it was demanded for a bike to have something to the pilion hold to. In my GSXR, that strap ripped itself...  :mad:

If I come across a damaged set of forks I might score the adjustable caps...if you know about a source of them around here, I have no problem sending to you guys overthere.

Thanks for the tips, now I know exactly how to check them! Nice!  :cheers:

For now, carbs are out, a good clean in order, and valve check the very next thing to do...  :woohoo:

Adidasguy to the rescue!!  :thumb:

Isn't that nice receiving shims in a letter with GS500 stamps AND cat posing stamps?!! And a card of the famous bike cave!  :woohoo:

I have to make my own customized stamps! These are cool!
Thanks Adidasguy!

It happens that after measuring valve clearances, my bike needed 4 smaller shims, so now the European Junior will be running on USA shims, some probably from the American Junior!!
I just fitted 125 main jets in the carbs (stock were 115), everything ready to reassemble and hit the start button!
However, it has to wait unitl next week...  :sad:
