Made my order for some new gear.  Most of it is only for street use, but the gloves could be used on the track.

I got last year's version of the Alpinestars GP Plus gloves on a closeout deal for $125:
http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/s...+gloves+-+2012 - These will hopefully deliver a huge amount of protection.  After hearing what can happen to people's pinky fingers in lowsides, I really like the idea of having the 3rd to 4th finger bridge.  I also wanted a full guantlet for good protection and a glove that will flow air well for hot weather.

Other stuff that I got just for street use along with the criteria I used for selecting them:

http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/s...e+riding+jeans - These are the only riding jeans that I could find that have a CE rating (granted it's the lowest level of protection against abrasion, but it's something).  I wanted something comfortable that I can wear and not have to take off when I get to my destination.

http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tcx-x-move-wp-boots- I was looking for a mid-rise boot with good ankle protectiion and decent styling for a reasonable price.  These look awesome and have much better ankle protection than others in the same range.

http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/j...leather-jacket - I wanted a jacket that doesn't have an overly sporty tight fit, is comfortable in hot weather, and still maintained thick leather in probable contact areas and CE armor.  While I'm not usually a fan of Joe Rocket's styling, this jacket is muted and subtle in it's styling.  Hopefully it will deliver in quality and comfort.

Overall, I wanted to get stuff with reasonable protection and comfort (mostly for warm weather) for a reasonable price. I think that the items I purchased should achieve that goal. This should be a big upgrade in quality and safety over my Xelement gear that I bought as my first set last year.  I plan on wearing these armored shorts, and knee/shin guards (both of which I already own) under the jeans as well.

Further review when I get the items, and still further after I use them for a while.  I'm excited to get this stuff!

Very timely. I just upgraded some gear yesterday at Cycle Gear. Nice thread.

Nice gear! I particularly like that jacket and the boots/gloves. You might have been able to get some cheaper gear (especially jeans CE rated) on motorcycle superstore. Was just looking at some kevlar CE rated jeans there and they were around 90 bucks, not much savings but its something.

You might be able to get by using that jacket on the track too, mostly leather, but its up to your track's rules I suppose.

Once again nice looking gear!

When I do track time, I'm planning on renting one piece leathers for the first few times until I know how much I'll be doing it.  Once I'm committed, I'll probably get a nice used 1 piece set.

jacob92icu

yea, that's the way to go. You gunna do track day with your gs?

Undecided on that.  I wouldn't mind having a GS platform to put on the track, but mine is so nice and set up for the street right now that I'm not sure I want to make it a track bike.  I'd love to get a really cheap GS and track it out.

Yea that's a good idea! That's why i want to race mine, got it for 500, so i wouldn't mind downing it.

Gloves initial review and pictures -
These gloves are definitely nice.  They are not overly protective in the wrist area, but I got them to wear in the summer.  They should flow some air with perforation in the wrist area, and also vents blowing over the back of the hand over the main knuckle sliders.  The carpal sliders give the gloves a mean medieval armor type look.  The sizing was correct in my opinion.  The gloves are little tight on the first knuckles when making a fist.  I expect this to loosen up over time with use.  Thumb motion was very easy and almost completely unconstrained.  The length of the fingers is perfect for my skinny, and I think somewhat average to long fingers.  They do not have a hard slider in the palm, as this was an update for 2013 in the GP plus gloves, but they do have plastic wrapping around to that area.

Nice, I'm going back and forth on ebay for a jacket from a guy who wants to haggle over $5.... He is lucky i like the jacket or i would have told him to kiss it .. Not like he is not going to get that $5 off his over priced shipping..
