i know oil threads are funny. but seriously. does anyone run Mobil delvac 15/40 in their gs?

m_melen

No. Your bike will sprout leather pants and start singing George Michael songs.
Honestly, I don't know. I've always gone to the dealer for motorcycle oil

lol, oil thread.  :woohoo:

will be tougher to start when cold, longer to warm up. really only for high temp/sustained high rpm applications. i'd stick to (insert brand name) (synthetic/regular) 10w40 oil.

Used Chevron Delo 400 for a while.  Great in the dead heat of summer.  Not so great in winter.

I started running the Delvac 15/40 in my 97 GS at 50k miles and ran it to 80k miles then I got the 02 GS and ran the Delvac or Rotella T 15/40 until the Rotella T got the JASO MA rating for motorcycles and have run only the Rotella since, all of the 97k miles now on the 02 have been on these oils. I think any of the name brand Heavy Duty aka Diesel aka Truck oils are all about the same.  I think you can't find a better oil for air cooled motorcycles.  Let the wars begin!   :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

I've run them year around here in NE Ohio in temps down to 20F.  I started using the Delvac in the 97 at 50k miles when the oil consumption increased, replaced costly Mobil I full synthetic.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Not Mobil.... But I top mine up with Valvoline All Fleet Extra 15/40 if I'm at work ... Cos I've got a 200litre drum of it .... No issues ...

Really ..... Although everyone has their favourite.... 'You' just don't put friction modified oil in a wet clutch bike..... Apart from that .. So long as the viscosity is one of the 'in the range allowed' ones .... Spend as much or as little as you like .... The recommended 6000 km/3700 mi service intervals kinda take out too much drama from the equation!! .. IMO

Stop answering the darn question, will yous.

Yeah, I tried Mobil delvac 15/40. Rubbed it all over my body, threw on some trackie dacks, a sloppy jo and a pair of runners then jogged 10 laps around our local athletic track. Felt a bit weird at first but I got used to it. So I'd say you're good to go.

I'm with mister.

When I go to the strip club, I generously rub it into my body. Gives off a great sheen and the way it lubricates when I forcefully hug the working girls is unparalleled!

I used Rotella in all my bikes. I leave the good stuff for Friday night use!

Well its a oil thread so I'll post this here. As anyone ever used diesel oil in the're gs? I was talking with a guy the other day who said he runs diesel oil in his bikes and cars. So random thought for a oil thread.

Yes ppl run diesel oil, basically any oil that's got the same sae weight as per the bike spec and suitable for wet clutches you can use in the GS

I vary my oil a little depending on the season and I change it much more often than most people do because I hate dirty oil. None of my machines (cars/ bikes/mowers or anything else) have ever seen dirty oil. At the moment I am running 20w50 in Suzi as it is very hot here (41C 105F today). We have had a very hot Summer and had 6 days in a row over 31C last week. The heavier oil makes no noticeable difference to the starting or running but gives me confidence that there is a little spare viscosity up my sleeve for the hotter days. In the cooler seasons I use 10w40. The major difference between petrol and diesel oils is that the diesel ones have more detergents and are slightly more alkalyne. They are fine for petrol engines and as a mechanic for 43 years I prefer to use diesel oil in petrol engines because of the extra detergents and extra ability to neutralise the the acids which form during combustion.    :thumb:
