Hahaha man I can't wait for next Saturday! Mind you, current weather prediction is heavy showers... glorious! That reminds me I need to find a big garter to go over my left leg to stop the rain suit melting on the exhaust like the last time over Mt Mee in the hail...

Blastard rain. It's hanging around not blowing away, until the next rain comes over. Then it buggers off but then the new rain stays. Arrrggghhhhhh

Well Mt Glorious is open again. Spent half the day out there on the GS trying out the new springs in the front forks and the OEM style clip ons. All I can say is holy crap is this bike a twisty machine now. I was rounding up sports bikes left, right and center. Bad part is it is starting to run lean now. All I have done is replaced an inlet valve shim to make it in spec and put a new OEM air filter in and some new plugs. Would changing a valve shim make it run lean? I eliminated the plugs as the culprit cause I ran the old plugs back in it and it still starts to break down around the 6-7k rpm mark. Anyone got an idea?

Maybe it's your pipe bringing out the condition after all this time?

Gah....not looking forward to doing that. I've never touched carbs.

slipperymongoose

Tell ya what if you want pop round today while I'm working on Aussie chicks oil leak and we can start by cleaning your carbs. I've got myself an ultrasonic cleaner so we can really de gunk those jets.

Sounds good. PM us ya address and a time.

peteGS

How'd ya go with it? Did you oil the new air filter when you put it in? Don't do that and it will run lean...

OH, and when checking your jets, ignore the RPM's the stumble happens at, look at the throttle position.

Pilot jet/mixture screws/idle circuit is only when the throttle is closed.

1/4 - 3/4 = needle jet and jet needle.

Full throttle = main jet only.

There is some crossover of course so compromises may need to be made, but start with that and you'll get pretty close... not that I'm a guru or anything, I've only just tried it myself but have had good success so far :)

The trick is reading the symptoms right...

Hey Slips want to clean mine too? I'll take any help I can get, I appear to be mechanically challenged. I can't even work out how to get the trip knob off the speedo to install a new bulb - Haynes says there should be a screw in the middle, I can't see no damned screw!

Twisted

The screw is really tiny and is inside the middle of the knob. You will need a pretty small phillips head to get it out.

Found it! It was all gunked up which is why I couldn't see it with a torch. A bit of forceful poking around in there allowed the screwdriver to bite the head.

Speedo/tach bulbs replaced with LEDs, maybe when I can be bothered I'll do the rest of the dash lights with the coloured LEDs I have.
