Dynojet Kit vs Individual Jets & Generic Jet Help

I am trying to figure out which jets I should get for my 2009 GS500F.  I am in the process of installing a Jardine RT-1 full exhaust and a K&N RU-2970 lunchbox air filter, and am now at the point where I need to decide on which jets to buy.

I have read that different location/weather/mod conditions require different jets, so I am interested in hearing what everyone here thinks.  After Googling around for a while, the only "kit" that I was able to find is the Dynojet Stage 1 kit, and that the other option is to buy them all individually (as specified on the wiki page here).  I am pretty new to motorcycles (this is my first one), but I have friends who are familiar with bikes in general, so I'm not too worried about installing the jets, as long as a lot of tweaking isn't required.

Therefore, I guess my question is this:  Should I get the Dynojet kit and install it myself (or other individual jets), or pay the $300-500 for a shop to do the choosing/tuning for me?  And if it is the individual jets, which should I get with my setup?  The wiki page mentions Vance & Hines exhaust, and a few others, but Jardine isn't mentioned much..

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for the help.

P.S.
If location matters, I'm currently based in Southeast Michigan, but I am planning some roadtrips going all over at some point lol.

Regarding Dynojet...some swear by them, most swear at them.  Purchase Genuine Mikuni jets and you will be good.  Buy 2 of each (1 for each carb).

Do not buy a Dynojet kit. I won't get far into it, but many people here have had more than enough trouble with them to warrant avoidance.

In my personal experience (bike came with dynojet stuff) it was very difficult to get running right in the first place and reversing the dynojet kit (new needles, slides, and mains) gave me a much smoother powerband, more low end power, and an extra 7mpg.

Regardless, dynojet kits take more work to install than properly rejetting your bike anyways.

Definitely do it yourself. With experience, most anyone should be able to pull the carbs off the bike in under 10 minutes (especially with a lunchbox), it's not a hard job at all.

Just out of curiosity... Where did you find a full jardine these days?

Hmm..alright, I'll probably go that route then.  Do you have any recommendations on which type/sizes I should consider given my two mods?  Also, do I just need Pilots, Mains, and Mid-Mains?  Or what about needle jets and such?  Are those needed as well?  I noticed that the wiki page mentions the number of washers needed for the needle jets, but it doesn't actually say if I need to replace them or not...

I just Googled it and clicked the first link lol.  Apparently it is on backorder right now, but should be shipped in a few weeks (I just ordered it over the weekend).  Although it still says that it is in stock...so I guess I don't know what is going on lol.  Here's the link:

I just hope they don't end up saying it's permanently unavailable...I haven't been able to find any other full exhaust for my GS500F :(

Yeah, I'm not sure what to tell you... Read through the link below.  I have been looking for a jardine for some time now... seems it's about the only option for the states, unless you want to pay a ton in shipping (there are quite a few full exhausts overseas).

Adidasguy got one on ebay a month or so ago for $150, but it needed a couple things... Another was up on ebay 2 weeks ago, but it went for full price for a new one, and it had scratches  :dunno_black:

I'm not a fan of the Vance and Hines because of how it ends up looking, and they seem to be prone to rust easily.

I'm running a straight pipe pretty much, so I'm not sure how the real exhausts last

Are they still available?  I had emailed them a few months back and they said it is no longer made or something..I wasn't able to find one at the time.

Wow..this makes me so sad...I was going to buy it a few months ago but figured I would wait until this spring, and now they might be extinct :(  Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they dig one up lol.

I did search around a bit regarding the merger... it happened in late August of 2012, and it seems it has not gone smoothly...
They claim that jardine products will continue to be made, but not sure how long it will take to get it off the ground again with Super Trapp at the head of truckloads of unsorted Jardine products.

One of the Super Trapp customer service people just emailed me and said basically the same thing.  So I guess now it's just a waiting game :/  That, though, is better than never xD

I've got my name/email in at a few different sites for them to email me when the jardine becomes available again.
Give us an update if you receive any more info , and/or when your exhaust arrives.

Will do.

Getting back on topic, does anyone have any more info on the jets?  Like if I need to replace the pilots and such?  A list of exactly what I would need (not necessarily sizes, but that would help) would be amazing lol.

If you currently have stock jets, you will need to increase the size of all three. You'll want to refer to the chart on the wiki for a starting point on sizes but just know that you may want to get a few different sizes of mids and mains. That way you don't have to worry about ordering something else to finish the project. And people on here are always looking for jets. I think The Buddha (a forum administrator on here) makes kits and may be able to set you up with a good starting point. Message him.

Does Jardine or Vance and Hines interfere with oil filter changing?

Pardon if this is wrong, just going from memory... but I think it was adidasguy who noted he was able to change the oil without taking the vance and hines off.  Also, I'm near certain jardine does not interfere with oil change any more than stock.
So don't hold any concerns for that.

I remember that one of them (I think it was the old Yoshimura) you had to loosen the exahust out before you had enough clearance. Just double checking as I like to have easy oil changes, not difficult ones.  :thumb:
