If you use something from a bike other than your GS and it doesn't pass sound or emissions regulations, I don't think they will care that it's an OEM Suzuki part.

I Agree, but I will have paid 100$ instead of 4-500$ for the part, and it's way less noticeable than a Yoshimura or Vance&Hines with Logos and all on it.. I'm more confident that I can pull it off with no issues.. The only people who will be able to spot it at first glance will be GS500 owners.. and what are the chances..

I think it's worth trying if the part fits easily enough and I can find the part for cheap..
basically its a weld on. ( any muffler shop can do that. )my spare is trapped in the car atm. cannot get trunk open, heres one on ebay. prices are fairly low atm http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-GSX-R-GSXR-1000-07-08-OEM-Left-Exhaust-Muffler-Pipe-Can-6-10-S94-/170987535166?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cfa6bb3e&vxp=mtr

this one is a left can. i used the right. this one CAN be used though. because the pipe can be rotated to line up with the stock gs exhaust header. the mounting tab can (and should) be twisted to line up. ( i used the pillion footpeg. )

Awesome man! Thanks a lot!! So I'm guessing the pipes are the same size and they line up properly? or will I need to buy an adapter as well? I have a friend who does welding for cars, so he's going to take care of it for me.

This is the best way for me to get my exhaust job done with my restrictions, I want to thank you very much for your suggestions and your help!! I can't wait to get the parts and start the work :) I'm very excited!

There is an even cheaper way to get some sound! Look up the Emgo universal shorty mufflers. They are like 30 bucks on amazon, weld on also. Much cheaper, I'm running that, and it sounds pretty dang good.

First set up with the muffler, just slipped over the pipe and zip tied to the stock hanger location

Current set up (before it was welded together). I also removed the little swing attachment, and ground the bolt it was on down to nothing so everything is smooth

Thanks for the suggestion mustangGT90210! But I'm still leaning for the GSXR Pipe, because of the legal issues here in Quebec.. I think that the Suzuki pipe will be less conspicuous, it'll look closer to stock, so I'm hoping it will pass as that :) The shorty looks modded, aka ticket prone .. :P

mustangGT90210

Oh right. I didn't even think of that, no legal issues in Florida for emissions or anything so it was a non issue here. So you're going to hollow out the gsxr can basically?

Im assuming QC does emissions testing?, i had an xs650 scooter amongst other bikes in az. the "scooter" stuck in 3rd gear, would not pass emissions to save its life. so when i had a test coming, id use alcohol to lean it out. pass the test, hit the gas station up the road, and fuel back up. anyhoo to answer his question, it will weld right on. cut off the stock can, im sorry i cannot remember exactly where. but leaving it intact and holding the gsxr can beside it, gives you a good idea. ( cut it longer than necessary. you can always remove more. but harder to add it back ;). )

I am moving!!! LOL Yeah, they are really anal.. well here they will actually check with some kind of wire, how far deep it goes in or something.. so hollowing it out won't work either.. I'm hoping just the fact that it's made for a bigger engine will help performance and sound just enough to satisfy my craving.. plus it doesn't hurt the looks, it's a hot pipe! The only time they will actually test is if they stop you for that, but as I said, since it will look stock, at least from far, they should have no reasons to stop me.. here's hoping :)

Ok great! I'm looking up parts online as we speak, going to try to find one at a good price in good condition.. what do u guys think of this? too good to be true? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-GSX-R1000-BODY-MUFFLER-R-/200903276409?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec6c4b779&vxp=mtr

Looks like a good deal. It's not a buy it now so it's just an auction, maybe you'll get lucky and score cheap! Just notice that whole 25 dollar shipping part.

And yeah Florida is pretty lax about vehicles. My bike has no signals, had no mirrors for a long time, still shoots flames on occasion, and is about as loud as a straight piped harley lol. And I've got a straight piped '91 F150 with HIDs, tires outside the fenders, all smoked lights, custom and far from DOT headlights, 5% tint, etc. And the Florida supreme court ruled it to be unconstitutional to regulate how loud the music you can play from car is, stating it infringes on the 1st ammendment

aye. its a reserve auction +$25 shipping that could add up. these cans are fairly common. mainly because people will ditch them and swap a yoshi or two brothers or whatever else in its place.
this is what the end of it looks like
will have to fill it in a tad with some weld. but done right its not at all noticeable

Always wanted to move to florida.. this is one more reason for it.. LOL!!

Yeah, I noticed the shipping, but believe it or not, that's one of the cheapest ones I saw.. where I live it's not easy.. lol. I'm going to wait it out and see how high the auction goes, if it doesn't budge I'm probably going to get it.

So in this case I'm going to use the piping that comes with it? I figured I would just use the can and weld it on with some kind of adapter.. maybe your way works better, I dunno, gotta get it and see.

When figuring out my rejetting with this add-on, should I consider it a stock muffler or an aftermarket one?

yamahonkawazuki

at the time when i took that shot @ the dragon with teh can installed. it was jetted stock. sure it would probably help to open it up a bit.

Cool, Am looking for the pipe as we speak, it's really hard to find a good deal, shipping to canada always screws me over.. I'm scouring ebay and the likes with no results.. I'm gonna keep trying! Snow is melting, it's gonna be tiome soon and I want to be ready!! :)

Going to buy my sprockets tomorrow, and maybe jets, if there are any in stock (which I doubt..)

SuzukiCrazy

Hey guys, quick Update: I went to my parts shop yesterday, and I ordered my jets! (they will arrive end of april only but it's fine) I'll take that time to work on the muffler.  I ordered that on ebay as well, under a 100$.. in good condition, I think it was a good deal.. I also bought a front sprocket with 15t, gonna install that first!

Snow is starting to melt, a few more weeks and I can start working! Can't wait to get some pics and post updates, the Falcon Project will be underway soon! Keep a lookout :)

SuzukiCrazy

Hey guys, for those interested in following the progress,I started a new thread here:http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=63653.0
Am gonna be working on rejetting tomorrow :) Wish me luck!!
