The bike magazine I've been subscribed to for a few years now, launched an interesting new item, recurring in every monthly issue:

'De jeugd van tegenwoordig'
Word for word that would be 'Today's youth' in English, but that doesn't really say it all.
De jeugd van tegenwoordig is a common expression in Dutch, describing the next generation.
Usually in a negative way, when used by older people (as in 'look what they're up to now'  )
But just as often in an ironic sense, when mocking this attitude of 'everything used to better when I was young'.

Don't know an English alternative. Idioms are often the last things you master when learning a language.  Closest thing I can think of is 'the young turks' but I'm not sure that's completely the same...


Aaaaaanyway, in 'de jeugd van tegenwoordig' they follow 4 aspiring riders during their first year.
Lessons, exam, first ride, first crash, etc.
3 young men and one lady: Cynthia.
