$4874 quoted labor + tranny... Guy told me not to drop anymore grenades into my trans(guess that was some sort of bad joke). I did not go into detail on what happened inside trans as i was so sick at the quote...

 :icon_eek: ..... errr .. wow!!...

few years back when i kind of destructed by burnout a older tranny .. it ended up being cheaper by nearly 40% to spend some time ringing around, find a good condition replacement (+ heavier duty for my ute at the time) from a wrecker yard, have it shipped 1100kms, checked over/serviced and bolted in..

somewhat different tranny tech and suitability with these new vehicles...

but .... thats the kind of cost i would expect from a full teardown/rebuild... whether USA or Australia! ..

2nd quote or google time?...

and being a 2wd vehicle... thats a hideous $$ figure!!

I'll diffidently be calling around for quotes the next few days. I called a few salvage yards and none had any that would work on 2wd.

try ebay. and do you know anyone who can do a trans R&R? almost 5 big is bullshit. shop rates are nearly $75/hr usually. i started charging this crackhead friend of mine these rates because of his stupidity. and having to do the same job 4 times. i warned him, " next time i have to do this. i WILL charge you shop labor. and you wont get your bike back until paid for. im getting tired of this. usually i charged him dinner and $20 first one i did free. i would ride bike to show him it was perfect. anyhoo. call around. find even a backyard mechanic. tell them youll buy transmission, get vehicle there, whats the charge to remove dead trans and install good one?

They do make duallys in gas engines although I never understood why. I would never have one.

A few reasons, actually. Less cold-natured, cheaper oil changes, more fuel options (not like diesel is hard to find, but it's obviously easier to find gasoline), usually less expensive initially, etc..

Another reason I can see is that, especially in older model trucks, it's a HELL of a lot quieter.

$3800 + tax= that's for tranny and labor(brand new trannY). Cheapest quote i got today so letting the guy do it since he is highly recommended by the local business's here(even though that at the top end of my budget, which he worked with me to meet that). My tranny is to damaged to repair which is why the cost is high.

Edit: On a side note, he said if it go's smooth for him that he might be able to knock a little off that quote but he said it would not be more then that in any case(even if it takes him longer).

The only used tranny i could find for it was around 2 grand(112 miles away from here), so spend little extra for a new one makes more sense to me at this point. I forgot to say included in that price is a replacement tranny mount. Have it all done all at once. He is also going to check the drive shaft to make sure its not out spec since i put so much pressure on it(he as some kind of machine in the back for that).

Its diffidently more then I want to spend, but oh well needs to be done.

mmm yep... but still a better price for a new box .. than the other bloke for a rebuild!!... still .. i guess IF the rebuild guy had somehow magically made the box into a 1000hp capable drag strip unit... then you could have put a kenne-bell ? supercharger on the donk eh!!  :icon_rolleyes: ;)
