i recently bought a new 2002 gs500.  i really enjoy riding it.  i estimate that i'm getting somewhere in the vicinity of 50+ miles per gallon.  is that true?  please write back and tell me how many miloes your bike is getting.  thanks! :thumb:

I just got 57.7 mpg on my stock '98 and I was real happy about that.  It came from commuting 11+miles to work on mostly straight country roads, and two short trips of an hour and an hour and a half that were mostly straight road.  Last tank I got about 50mpg, just commuting, but It was colder then too.  A 2002 has a different carb set up, so that may change your mpg, but you also have a bigger tank, so that will increase your range.  Your estimate of 50+ should be about right, until get into some more 'spirited' riding.

I bought a used 2001 this past January and I'm getting 70+mpg. I managed to rack up 300 miles on a tank without touching the reserve switch. I have about 5300 miles on the bike.

Mileage depends on how you drive...  Fast starts and "fun" high revs = low 50s.  Slow starts and quick into high gear = 60s.  Also your weight and if you carry a passenger will affect mileage.

50-55mpg, got 60 last week, once got 65mpg. 56mpg this morning (124 miles/2.2 gal = 56).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

Sure helps with these gas prices.  I usually can only get fuel economy in the 40mpg range because my commute is mostly stop and go and only for a short distance.

i find it funny that when our mileage drops below say 45 we start complaining yet its still twice as good as our fellow cager friends. :nana:
going fast isnt the problem, its the crashing and burning that hurts

I usually get about 40 mpg but when I took my trip to Wisconsin I got around 55 mpg.  Oh my normal commute is usually above 90mph.

john

About 50 after jetting.  A tad better stock.  My z1000 gets about 42

I was getting 55 mpg and that's including flogging it up and down the local canyons, not commuting. We're talking 8-10.5k revving the whole time...
