Had a battery issue, some acid got spilled out (used distilled water to refill) and the bike will not start, it just cranks. I did only try yesterday April 7th and it wasn't the warmest out. Should have started as it has been started since winter "ended" I've put half a tank of new gas in it. carbs were cleaned out in october/november spark plugs are fine and battery is giving off 13.8Volts. Should be enough. any suggestions aside from draining the gas?

This may sound silly but did you close the tankcock valve when you put the bike up for the winter? I've twice forgotten to open that valve when I took the tank off. That would explain why the bike won't start.

Fuel tank petcock on?  Turn to PRIME.  Does it start now?  Add some Seafoam to your tank to clean out all of the crud.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

I'd try to start it with a jump from a non running car first off.  Bikes are a bit marginal on voltage left for spark while cranking a cold engine with heavy oil.  It will spin fast with plenty of spark when jumped from a larger battery.

Just read your previous posts starting last Sept and you had similar problems then.  How's your air cleaner element, have you changed it since you got the bike?  I had a starting problem like that a few winters ago, wouldn't start with choke on but tried to fire up with choke off but wouldn't run without it on.  Finally got it started by cranking without choke and flipping the choke on as it started to catch.  Turned out to be a dirty air cleaner element and when I put in the new one I had on hand to put in in the spring the bike was good as new again.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Last september I had just purchased it and the issue turned out to be bad gas that I had gotten from Canadian Tire so I drained the tank and put new gas in which worked. This time I have put new gas in but didn't remove the old stuff first. I will try jumping from a car. I will also put that product in to remove the crud from the fuel.

Thanks a lot for the advice I will update tomorrow when I get it running.

Also if anyone has any suggestions on a great route from Ontario (Guelph) to Pittsburgh that I should take down let me know
