Ok so the how and why isn't important but I overfilled the oil. Before that the bike was running fine. I realized my mistake and drained it then refilled it. I did a ton of reading and checked a few things. Replaced spark plugs, checked air filter and box and there was no oil in there. Cranked the engine without spark plugs and nothing came out. I currently have the spark plugs out and letting it sit over night just in case it flooded and needs to dry out.

Any suggestions guys? I just wanna get this thing up and running so I can sell it and never have to look at it again.

Fuel is fine I just added plenty to the tank. But I was thinking that it could possibly be a fuel issue but considering that the bike seemed okay before I made the oil mistake, it must be a problem stemming from that.

Your bike is fukked. Only solution is to sell it to me for $50. I'll even throw in a mars bars on top. We have a deal?

I'd start with the basics first. Compression, fuel, and spark. I have zero experience with over filling oil, but if it's not starting I want to say the internal pressure was so high that it blew something out of tolerance (and low compression).

Did you actually try to start it with the extra oil, or did you realise the mistake and drain it, then try to start it?

If so the problem wont be related and you need to consider the usual suspects, sparks fuel etc.

You have to put a LOT of extra oil in there before it becomes a serious problem

This may sound silly but in your evaluation of the problem did you remove the tank and forget to open the tankcock valve when you put the tank back on? I've done that twice already. That would explain why the bike won't start.

Before you do anything, drain ALL oil out of your GS, then fill to the correct level.

You need 3 things for an Internal Combustion Engine to work:

Fuel/air mixture
Spark
Compression

Check for strong spark, condition of plugs FIRST.
NEXT try fuel.  Are you getting gas?  Is it pig rich/lean?
Finally try compression.  Put your thumb over the spark plug hole.  Should be a definitive "pop".

Sorry I should I stated that I did run the bike for about a minute before it died. Then it would no longer start. The plugs are sparking, and the thumb compression test yielded a positive result. The air was enough to keep my thumb from stay on the hole. So that just leaves fuel right?

I did just notice that one of the fuel receiver on the carb was discontented. But idk if I accidentally did that last time I took the air box or if it's been like that since the problem occurred. Need to check on that for sure.

Check all fuel hoses and petcocks.  Make sure gas is flowing.  No gas, no go.

With only fuel in the carb and the choke on, my bike only ran for about a minute (didnt turn tank petcock back on).

Sounds about right for what;s just in the carbs.

I would strongly suggest taking a look at the plugs. I have never overfilled oil but I have flooded a motor and got gas in the oil and that will foul the plugs very fast. Im not sure if overfilling the oil would cause the oil to push past the wiper ring. That being said its no big deal when this happens but make sure the spark plugs are good, It can't hurt to just replace them to be safe so you can totally rule them out.

The bike is up an running!!!!! Turn out that I didn't connect that tiny hose that goes from the petcock to that little tube on the side of the carbs wants connected. So yeah! Runs good, idling at about 1500 (smaller front sprocket) and everything seems great. Had to adjust the clutch cable a lot before it was good though. Small rattling sound from clutch cover. Thinking new clutch soon maybe?

 

phew ... lucky.... the missus would have had my 'nads in a sling if i bought another bike right now
