Katana shock questions

I just installed my Katana 600 shock the other and I can't seem to find a comfortable setup. The ride is definitely stiffer, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for when adjusting the shock. It seems like I'm feeling every bump in the road where the stock shock didn't seem to be so bouncy.

So there are 2 separate adjustments, the little black dial that I can move with my finger, and the bigger one on the bottom that I need the wrench to move. What is the difference between these dials?

Also, I'm 5'11" 180lb, does anyone have a suggested starting point for the settings?

The top one, I have at 2.  Bottom, I have at 4.  I think that's stock, but not sure.

I'm 180lb with gear on, and yep...it's stiffer.  Frost heaves lift me off of the seat.  I used to weigh 220-ish, so I may adjust down 1 or 2.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...
