Was riding today everything was going fine, i clutched to make a stop at a stoplight and the lever felt 100% limp, i rolled threw the light and got the bike home but i still have 0 clutch. removed the tension bolt and checked the boot on the engine case, the case bolt is backed almost completely out and i cant physically pull the cable completely free so i know its not snapped... So where do i start looking now? the cable is completely limp :( i can still power shift threw the entire set of gears

got the cover off and found a metal pin and crushed collar in the bottom of the cover, the pin sits in the center of the clutch assembly and im assuming rotates when the clutch is pulled. half the pin is still in the block and i can freely pull it out and put it back in, obviously with oil weeping out when the pin is pulled, any ideas on what this pin is called and if its a quick fix? or do i need to backcheck anything else for damage when this pin sheared off.

if what are describing is what i think it is, that would be your clutch push rod and a busted oil seal that seats around the rod that goes to the apparatus to separate the clutch plates when you pull the working lever.

you should be able to order new ones for pretty cheap or your local dealership would probably have one or both. i could simply pull the seal from its mount on my sv, but i haven't had this problem with the gs. you may just have to buy a new rod to replace the busted one.

did you run over something recently or have your chain slip off the sprocket?

edit: look here (its for a 92 but its probably the same thing) http://www.bikebandit.com/1992-suzuki-gs500e/o/m139327#sch245276

parts 20 and 21 in the diagram are probably what your talking about right?

Thanks ive tried every dealer in NH ME and MA and nobody has one in stock :*( the bikes been wrecked once good and hard and this morning i hit a huge bump that actually got me some air the rod didnt break for a few more hours but im assuming thats what did it :*( course its 70+ degrees here and im stuck in the house for 7 days till the part comes in.

How's your chain? Bet it's loose or damaged.

is that a usual cause? its an old old chain, ive taken the best care of it possible but it is probably time for a new one, i figured when i swap for the katana rear wheel while i have everything apart i can swap the chain but i wont have shop time to bend the brake bar out till wends and im going to be waiting for the clutch rod till next week somtime.

No need to bend one when you can buy a Bandit 1200 brake bar for so little

Hahah course, you know whats ironic... right before i went to pull out of my work parking lot a co worker goes "that chain looks like shaZam!" then less then a minute later i lose the clutch >.<  is it 50 , 51 or 52 links for the gs's? ive got stock sprockets if im not mistaken.

Are you saying a worn chain can jump on the font sprocket taking out the clutch push rod?

Stock chain is 110 links.

Thats 100% confirmed, i bought a new clutch rod, waited 7 days put it on and within 10 mins snapped the clutch rod again... so its time for a new chain i guess >.<
