Well the other day my GS had a strange noise coming from the engine

Since then I've discovered it was low on oil anyways sorted that with fresh oil and filter, the bikes back to how it was runs and rides fine, starts on the button however the small tapping noise has come back, I've sort of located it to the top left of the engine. I've got some suspicions its the left small end bearing

Any advice or what to do, I'm thinking a top end rebuild ?????

joshr08

ride til she blows and then replace the motor.  Could be tomorrow could be 40k miles down the road.

I guess,

There's not many engines about though

There seems to be more 2001 onwards engines around what's the actual difference between the old and the new motor

oil cooler
Thats misinformation
The only difference between the newer E engines and the older E engines is the Tacho connection afaik.
Only the F's have the oil cooler
I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Again ONLY THE F MODEL HAS OIL COOLER AND NOT THE E MODEL So there is NO OIL COOLER ON THE NEWER E MODELS
so saying the oil cooler is the only difference is misinformation when there is NO OIL COOLER

AGAIN I WILL SAY I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEING THE ONLY DIFFERENCE OR ABOUT THE NEWER E OVER THE OLDER E.  HE NEVER STATED WHAT YR OR MODEL HE IS DRIVING

Well he didn't state he wasn't from the US so my info is not misinfo for the US.  I guess when people want help they need to tell everyone where they are from.  I should have to ask the questions to help someone fix there bike. :thumb:

Its in his profile which is the first place I looked so that I would not give him the wrong information for his country.
I thought everyone did this?
Like I said in my country you can still buy the E model new here.
All is forgiven anyway move on.

Joshr08 My opinion is if you have a GS you should know that there's 2 models

My info will be limited because I have an old GS and have no knowledge of the newer models

But I do know there is 2 models  :D

You're no fun Jester, Back in yer box.

FYI you can put a newer E engine into your E or F model GS without too much issue

Joehanson70

Cheers jester and codajastal so basically the engine is the exact same just the carb that differs but that doesn't exact ally matter

joshr08

Listen here I know there are 2 models an E and a F Im in the US those are our models WE don't have a NEW E here  :flipoff:  And for that matter you don't know how to keep your oil filled on an oil cooled motor don't act all smart now.
