Hi guys, I've searched & searched but I can't figure out why my 89 gs is being such a pain. I just installed two new carb rebuild kits too, but that didn't solve my issue. The bike will start up just fine, but a couple seconds in gas just starts pouring out of the hose in the attached picture. I'm really at a loss as to what the issue is. Any help would be much appreciated.

The thick hose coming from the top of the engine?

Did you reset the float height properly? Sounds like the floats are not seating properly.

You might have some moisture build up and coming out from there but even if you did it would not be much at all. If you have fuel coming out of that hose, you have major problems. But dont worry, I highly doubt it is fuel coming from that hose because it is a vent line. If you have fuel coming out it would be your engine is completely filled with fuel internally and coming out the top of the engine (not possible).

It's definitely fuel coming out of that thick vent hose. I' ll try messing with the floats again, but the fact that THAT much fuel is getting into the engine is a bit concerning.

Something isnt right. You would have to completely flood the engine from the bottom up to get fuel out of that.

Wouldnt be gas probably but did you recently adjust valves? Leave a rag in there under the cover in the return?

Does the dipstick smell/feel like gas??? Does oil/fuel overflow out of the dipstick hole when you pull it?
If fuel is coming out of there you have a major issue. Be sure not to start it again like that. Drain the oil and see what it looks like.

My only thought could be if you have a lot of water in your oil it foams up and comes out the breather... then catches the gas fume blowby on the way out.

Good thought there... seafoam if so. Then flush a few times.

I have pulled water out of a crankcase on my wifes current quad. Been running great. Prior owner was an idiot.

And to clarify overflow is the key word.. if a little blows out etc then its not the same thing.

So how do you get a lot of water in the oil of an air cooled bike?
By spraying it with water way to much or by it being in a downpour and water getting in the vent host or some other place (dipstick hole, loose valve cover?).
You can get condensation but not enough to do what te OP is describing I would think. Most of the time the condensation gathers in the exhaust anyway. Either way, water or gas Mr Bucketerium should really drain that oil and take a look before running it again.

Eh, I've seen foam coming from the breather from sitting outside a few days. Between work and getting groceries my bike rarely sits for more than 2 or 3 days in a row, so 'a lot' to me probably isn't much for most people.

He should have a breather element on the end of the hose too, the way it is makes for a good route to get contaminants in the engine.
