Marking templates for lapidary shapes.... Errr ... You gets your rock/gem slab and places the template over it... Uses an aluminium 'pencil' to mark the outline then can wet grind or 'lap' down to the line for basic shape.... After that you can start to facet a gem or continue to wet grind a rock to make it all purty like!!

... I reckon..... Did about 2 years of lapidary in my young teens... But our templates were bigger than that

a rack connector?

It does goe in a rack - can you be a tiny bit more specific? bonus points if you can give me its proper name (which is also how it works)

oldmech

not gonna bs you here.., i took a wag at this one.  i knew it was a rack connector of sorts. but the specific type? i would call that a modular style. most of the ones i deal with are made of shall we say more harder material and are bolted into racks for all the funny black boxes on airplanes to plug into. not totally familiar with this style.

You are likely to be the only person to have used something anything like it. It is an "Insulation Displacement Connector" or IDC for short.  It is used in telco comms racks to provide easy cross patching between cables and cards into multiplexers.  Cables terminate on top, jumper wire on the bottom.

Replaced wire wrap (although we still have clients with that too.. )

You are up -  :thumb:

ahhh.. an industrial sized audio integrating system connector of sorts! i am used to a box with three 50 pin connectors on it that does all the passenger address, communications and crew interphone routing in the comm system. it has a simple name. an reu..remote electronics unit. works great till something fries and you get to here the comms through the passenger address and the interphone for the crews through the comms when you are not supposed to.
late here and will post something tomorrow, have to get up at 4 am for work.
IDC connector..damm neat names they come up for stuff.  :D
