Will a GSX-R exhaust fit a GS500f?

Currently looking to upgrade my exhaust system.

I know they make a couple slip-on's for the GS but I'm looking for a GP style short exhaust.
Jardine makes a couple nice ones for the GSX-R and I'm wondering what the demensions
are and how much welding, cutting, and so on would need to take place (if any..) in order to fit before I buy one.

Thanks! :D

i used one of hte short wedge cans from a gsxr 1000 on my 97 gs. ( same as an f as far as exhaust mods go. weld on mainly using stock gfs header and pipe. cut shortly before stock exhaust. wedge welded on, and tab bent to fit. pillion peg is slightly above it so passengers if any will have to be careful to keep feet on peg otherwise smell of burnt sole will happen.

.. from the deep distant murk of last week .. my memory dredges up that our pipe is 45mm ... depending on the model GSXR you buy the can for .. will determine the pipe diameter ...

if you are GOOD with welder/metal/shop craft style stuff and have the neccessary equipment already then any exhaust should not pose too much of a problem... but then you probably wouldnt be asking... cos you'd know...

if you dont have equipment (mainly) .. then honestly i would head to your local exhaust fitter for any vehicle... with your chosen can/exhaust ... and say 'how much to fit that to there' ... they most likely can complete that sort of job in under an hour.. for the price ..

it would be a good idea to pretty much work out your mounting points between frame and can beforehand.. so the pipework can be done correctly..

i havent done any proper exhaust work to my bike... or other vehicles... but i have used welders to make bodge-up patch jobs and redneck repairs.. have had mates do their own exhaust welding on bikes... and usually its pretty poor.. both in workmanship and sound ..

so again... if you dont KNOW pipe welding or at least thin metal weld work ... and its no shame if you dont ( my pipe welding involves a lot of extra holes and swearing) ... then get a qualified fitter to do it...

only exception to this is if you buy a full system with new gaskets and stuff.. for the GS500 specifically... then its just bolt work and gloating mostly  :D

I have used a welder maybe eight times.. And that was just to make some shitty art work. I have no intention on welding these parts
myself, I'll do a little more research now on exhaust diameters for the GSX-R models and compare to the the GS.

any good exhaust fitter should also be able to flange or expand your end of the stock pipe to fit any can pretty much ..

and yama... no matter how many times i see that photo... i still reckon your headlight was blinding aircraft pilots.... i know you've said before that the alignment was ok... it just looks way up eh..  ;)
