Fuel Problem

Hey everyone,
I was riding today and the bike kept bogging then cutting off when i'd roll on the gas, did this in the "ON" position, switched to PRIme, fired up and no more problems. Back to "ON" it died again, back to PRI it was fine... so question is, anyone have any clue what might be doing this? I think there might be some in the fuel pick up from the tank but haven't gotten in there to check... nothing in the lines though, and i don't think the filter is doing it...

Simple things first: enough fuel so that you don't need to switch to RES (which PRI does as well)?

Kinked ON-hose (allowing enough fuel flow for idle, but not for OT)?
Vacuum leak (The hose going from the top of the left carburetor tot he petcock)?

FULL tank, only got about 12 miles on it... and I'll check those other two things.

Bump. No kinked hoses. I have everything fuel wise (cept the carbs) apart and the problem has to be before or in the deal that selects which fuel setting... bike runs on PRI and bogs down and starves out on "ON".

Please help if you have any ideas...

Can't tell from your last reply - how does the vacuum hose between the left carb and the petcock (and the connections on either end) look?

The ON and RES settings on the petcock only pass fuel on a vacuum pulse from the left carb.  This only occurs when the engine is running and when the vacuum connection is air-tight.

If the hose looks good your next step is probably to open up the petcock and inspect the diaphragm inside.

Hose is fine, sorry I forgot to mention that. The petcock diaphragm would be inside the 4 screws on the fuel setting deal, right?

Yep, diaphragm is under those 4 screws.

Riding on PRI is fine if you don't anticipate leaky float needle valves, and you don't mind having no "almost out of gas!" notification.

I believe its fixed. Took everything apart, cleaned it, put all back together. Diaphragm wasnt seating right I don't think, maybe that caused the vacuum problems... who knows. Didnt do the problem today.
