Welcome, you'll learn failry quickly how to take care of the lil GS. It isn't rocket sience and most things people can do maintenance wise can be done by the individual. If you goto gstwin.com mainpage you will see a page on how to's. In there it tells you quite a bit of info on doing thins such as oil changes. Im about to do my first oil change on my motorcycle and it looks pretty easy. I've done them on my car before so it can't be that hard. I also reccomend picking up a clymer or haynes manual. These manuals cover pretty much everything you need to know on repairs and standard maintenace. Oh and on that main gstwin page there is a link to when you should do so and so repairs and at what milage. There is also the GS500 wikipedia site that was just created not too long ago, that should be a great help.. you can find it http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500. oh and btw if you buy a clymer buy it buy clicking this link http://www.amazon.com/gp/explorer/0892878339/2/ref=pd_lpo_ase/002-9669448-4321632?ie=UTF8, it donates some of the money to the site, be safe and i hope everyone here can help you and have fun .

Wow this thread started 2 years ago. . .

Hi,
Ask the dealer just to make sure when the last oil change was.  You can get the claymer or haynes manual for the GS's up to 02's but the 04+'s are the same bike just with a fairing and oil cooler, well the carbs are a bit different but no biggie everything else is the same.  If you want to do the work yourself.

Here is the maintance schudel ( my spelling is very very bad )

Forgot welcome to the madhouse

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

And remember....when replacing....the oil filter cover....don't....overtighten....the....nuts....or you'll have....serious problems.......
