hey new to this but I got a 05 gs500f and I was wondering has anyone cut the pipe right before the can and left it? does this require rejetting?

Straight pipes aren't so good for a motorcycle, not too harmful for cars but from my knowledge its a different story for bikes. The bikes need the back pressure that the muffler offers. It would be unreasonably loud as well. But some people like to do that. Here is a bike with straight pipes:

I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

that just ghetto, buy a muffler.

I ran an emgo shorty muffler with the baffle.. um.. shot out the back and missing.. Anyways! Bike sounds like a pissed off lawn mower, makes a lot of noise, and yes it wants a rejet at that point. Rejetting a GS takes $25-$33 thru Buddha on here and about 20 minutes of your time. Just do it. Lol

The previous owner of my bike did that. He had to rejet it. The bike sounded real mean but didn't run too great.

I see people talk about the need for back pressure from time to time but never post technical info on what it is or why they think they or the engine needs it. There are plenty of bikes out there that run open headers or exhaust.
