Sup O0...

Well my story starts when my drift/dd 240sx was stolen and stripped ...i needed cheap transportation and since  i refuse to own any other car other than a 240 i opted for a cheap old bike  till i come up with the money for a car...
I saw thiz 90 gs500 for 700 and jumped on it since i kinda ran ...after taking it home i notice one cylinder wast firing so i imedietly thought FUEL!!!!... I pop the carb off and i noticed the float needle was completly cloged... So i cleaned the carb , passages, jets everything really good..now a few things i noticed ..the fuel mixture screw was out about 1/2 a turn on one side and 1/4 on the other, the needles have an o-ring three small washers  and a ruber  washer  before the c clip and one of the black caps is chiped a little bit i migh have a really small hole... I set the mix screw at 3turs out and put it back together and slapped it bak on the bike...it ran on both cylinders but it was smoking really bad and had a lot of hessitation..this morning i tried it with the choke off and it ran good with no smoke a little hassitation until the bike warmed up and the same cyl started to miss again .... So now am kindda lost any help is appreciated!!! Thanks !

Try taking out 2 of the 3 washers on the needle. You are probably drowning the cylinder. Are the plugs black?

Ok, three turns out for the screws isn't bad. Does it have stock exhaust and air filter?

stock air box and exhaust (not for long  :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:)

well little update: took off the two spacers and put o rings on the little vaccum hole on the side (the manometer ports) and just for in case i looked inside the right engine cover where the suzuki logo is at(mine is missing ) and sure enough one on the pick ups was touching the spinning thig there is even a little groove ...after straighten it back i lossen the screws and set back as far as i could...put it all back together started the bike it ran kindda funny open up the choke let it warm up and it ran fine for like 10 mins, rode it like 5 mins till i ran out   gas .....so i think is fixed , have to get more gas and ride it for a bit longer to make sure  :woohoo:

Thats great! Fill it up, and run it for a bit. Look for weak spots in the throttle response, hesitation, popping exhaust....all common lean/rich issues. If it runs good, then you are all set. I would check the plugs again though periodically to be sure.

will do... i did notice a little hessitation upon take off... the rpms rise up like 3000-4000 rpms and after that the  rpms shoot up  :thumb:

The hesitation/bogging down before throttle response can be an indicator of a rich mixture as are those plugs. Try leaning it out a bit?

the left one looks  orange the right looks black

The orange could be indicative of a valve problem or could be simple as the kind of gas you use (additives). But have you tried to sync the carbs yet with a manometer? Try syncing and fixing that rich mixture, maybe your problems will go away lol.

i dont have a manometer so i might be taking her to a shop for that....does anyone know where i can get a nicr rejet kit with needles and all!?

Nahian

You can make a manometer for like $8. Look it up. Works pretty well. As far as a jet kit, you can save a lot of money by just buying the jets yourself (whatever main/pilot you want) and a couple of #4 washers on the needle. This is to my knowledge however. I followed the rejet instructions on here http://www.angelfire.com/mt2/mikesgs500/rejetting/ and my bikes running really well. I've been riding it for a few hours almost everyday this week. Good luck with whatever you decide though.
