is it a commercially created thing Kiwi? ... or a home engineered solution to a issue?

Kiwingenuity

It is a cheap chinese made object - bought for about $1 - lets say its purpose is educational / toy

those kooky chinese eh! .. hrmm .. educational/toy ... hrrrrrrrm

i figure it to be used to suspend something from those hooks .. in water hrrrm.... the brass washers are weight to keep that end downwards .. if the plastic bulb bit had a loop on the end i would have said thingy for one of those hook and loop fishing games at fairs .. win a prize kinda thing..

ive seen similar things used to suspend fishing lines/bait off the bottom .. but those are hooks .. not loops ...

would be the worst squid jig in history!!

dang it... i can  picture so many uses in my mind ... but defining them is a bastard!!

Kiwingenuity

:icon_idea: it may not quite float due to the washers

chinese lunch pail delivery 'control float' .. for diver/welders working on their mini subs??  :D .. make sure lunch pail dont crash down hard and upset the bean curd!!  :icon_lol:

i know i'm gonna be annoyed when this one comes out!  :icon_rolleyes:

yeah .. i got the function of the thing... its a zero buoyancy float kinda thing...

just trying to decide for where its used in or what its used for...

Now that would be awesome, but you normally have to use this in a sealed container so  you can make it work..

oops... double post

Janx101

hang on ...out of a fire extinguisher?... but nah .. thats not a educational/toy type thing...

oh and i cant remember what thread it was.. but yeah ... we going on a cruise cruise... big ass ship... going .. bay of islands/auckland/tauranga/napier/wellington/akaroa/dunedin/fiordland Nat Park ... personally i'd rather fly over and then drive about... but cruising is ok too ..  :D

Kiwingenuity

That time of the year a big boat is probably the least stress option for travelling... and you get to see most parts of the country.

:icon_idea: Neutral buoyancy has been mentioned - add a sealed container...

The buoyant float part of a toy.  Put in a larger container something that sinks to the bottom and has a bail that faces up.  Put the subject in the photo in.  Fill with water or other liquid and seal.  As you squeeze the larger container, the subject whatcha ma callit sinks.  Use the grapple at the bottom to hook the "fish" at the bottom.  Release pressure and your catch will rise.

Thats close enough for me Paulcet - it's called a cartesian diver - but this toy did exactly that, picked up small objects using the hooks.

You can do a bit of Googling to find out what's in the middle, the blue circuit board. The main board is my design. What do you think I'm making?

Hints to come as needed this evening.

Kind of like a Basic Stamp single chip micro on a board.
IC1 is a voltage regulator.
Probably making a gauge indicator for your bike.

Paulcet

No micro controller here. The Digi product would interface nicely with uC, but my application doesn't need the brain.  Which Digi International product is it? That might get you going the right way.
