Since I've bought my bike my brakes have been squeaky. I thought it would go away after they got broken in, but it hasn't and it's been over a month and nine hundred some miles. It doesn't really affect performance to my knowledge, but it's annoying and a bit embarassing.

Is this normal or should I have the dealer look at this (under warranty, hopefully)?

Also some potentially disheartening info -- like from gsJack (who had only temporary success in stopping the "squeal" until he changed to Kevlar pads).

The "anti-squeal" or "anti-seize" compounds that were talked about sound interesting.

Also, my Haynes manual mentions the OEM "anti-chatter" shims that are installed against the back of each rear brake pad.  While describing the process of (re)installing the rear pads, it also says

Maybe the copper-based stuff is supposed to help limit the squealing?  Maybe it IS anti-squeal compound?

Yep, copper paste is used there to kill the squealing.

This is just my opinion, but I'm glad when my brakes squeek, because it tells me that they're working.
