Hrm. I trailered my GS home from the guy I bought it from. No sooner did I roll it off the trailer and begin rolling up the driveway then I dropped it right there. A bent brake lever and pushed through turn signal was the extent of the damage....except to my pride.
It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:

I trailered mine home too.... got the bike off perfectly .. nary a scratch!!  ;) :flipoff:

then i turned around and walked into the loading ramp with my shins..  :icon_eek: ... stepped back to swear and check my legs...  >:( bumped my ass into the bike and lurched forward away from it (still without knocking it over!!) .. tripped on the loading ramp again and took a dive across the load bed of the trailer in a not so graceful landing...  :icon_rolleyes:

but the bike was unharmed !?  :D

It's the bike-drop post... kinda fun in a Schadenfreude way. Mine was while learning how to kick start a CB350... in gravel... duh. As a newbie that bike felt heavy too. My bf said, "At least you got that out of the way." Then I just practiced a lot going around the neighborhood over and over and in parking lots until I got the hang of it. Also, the MSF course is a huge help... in teaching you what to practice in order to become good a rider. I recommend it... I haven't dropped anything since (knocking on wood)

Never dropped the GS
Drop the CT110 all the time! No biggie. Usually break a mirror but that's the extent of it.
Gotta stop working drunk I suppose ;)

To the op:  If you are a new rider and this is your first bike you really need to take the MSF Basic Rider Course.  You can drop their bikes and not worry about it.  Well worth the small fee.

Age is a high price to pay for maturity.

It's water over the bridge at this point, but, while the GS is a better highway bike, the Ninja 250 is perfectly capable of it and the CBR250 should be as well.  The latter two are noticeably lighter and easier to handle at low speeds but the GS wasn't a bad choice.  Let me second the above poster's advice on taking the MSF course.

Got my 93' GS a couple weeks ago, first bike.  Thought I was doing pretty well, then I tried parking on a downhill incline.  Didn't notice the uneven pavement until I was about to dismount, and she starts going down to the right.  I catch her, but she is already 80% down.  No one is around to help and I don't have enough leverage to pull her up.  I let her down really slow, get myself in the right position and pull her back up.  No damage thankfully!

Knew it was gonna happen sooner or later.  Could have been worse!  Don't sweat it.
'93 GS500e Red/White /w Pink decals, yep I rock those pink decals hard
