adjusting float height

Ok tried to adjust float height. My as found float height was a little over the gasket surface using the tube method.

Pulled carbs off, flipped them over, bent the tab down. This lead to gas overflowing out the top vent. So clearly I bent the tab the wrong way.

Take carbs off again, flip over, bent tab up. I bent the tab as far as it will go. My float height is now identical to when I started. Still above the gasket plane.

I cant bend the tab any further as it interferes with the plastic arm attached to the float.

Now what?

Here's my guess... is the needle valve seated properly? (Forgive me if I'm not using the correct vernacular). The brass valve that the needle jet goes into. I know mine wasn't sealed very well, was just loose pretty much in the hole, causing me to run waaaay too rich, and waste a lot of gas, until I put a little dab of oil on it and actually felt it 'snap' into place.

As far as I know, if that isn't seated properly then there's no cutoff for fuel, so float height wouldn't make any difference at that point.

Edit: I also changed the needle valve to one with a fresh gasket, when I changed all of the gaskets in the carbs... That's an important detail.

sorry I should have included that detail.  The float valve and seat are brand new.  When I installed the seat, I put some grease on the oring to help it "set" into place.  Ive had issues when installing things with orings where the oring wants to roll out of its place if it wasnt lubed with some oil or grease because it was too tacky.

Im 99% sure they are seated correctly.

With the carbs flipped over, in order to lower float height, you guys are bending the tab upwards right?

you can do this at least on the right carb while installed on the bike.

While carbs are installed the tab bent upwards increases the float height yes

Basically think of a V. The more you bend the tab up the higher the float line goes. (more gas).

Very small change changes the height.

Also you are doing this on the CENTER stand correct? Not leaning to one side or the other?

Did you use the wiki method?
