Ughhhh those rear sets and foot pegs you guys got are so nice looking, how much did you pay for them in US dollars?!?

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

steezin_and_wheezin

Thanks mang! I'm dying to try all the new parts on the project, just need to get it road worthy!

The Gimbel rearsets were ~$300 for the riders, and passenger pegs were extra ~$50 i think

Here's Gimbel's ebay auction;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260738085031

Still $100 cheaper than buying from WHA

Sweet thanks! Ya your gs is looking like its coming together pretty well! I think I will have to hold off on buying those for a while, maybe just substitute some gsxr rear sets.

Things accomplished yesterday; tighten front fender, mounted front wheel, tighten fork brace, install missing tach cushion/gasket, drill chain guard for hugger and mount guard, mount petcock, mount mud guard, swap new sprocket on hub and mount on wheel, mount rear wheel, assemble tail fairing and install, finish mounting solo seat cowl, swap upper triples.

Get to it Steezin...LOL!

I have lots of brake pads if you need them.  They fit OEM F models...not sure if they are different cause you said "Nissin"

PM me if you need them.

EDIT:  Tell me what shims you need.  I"m getting rid of the 3.xx sizes first.

This is me getting on it Jester!! Haha all this is at my half baked pace   Preciate the brake pad offer, I have a handfull of oem style pads as well. I'm attempting to use the 4 pot nissin sv650 caliper and adapter plate. There's still life left in the pads, but will need a new set soon. I will check the shim case when i get home on lunch for sure!

Are you asking about the chain guard 8.6? That is the german style chain guard. Adidasguy makes a quality gs500 chain guard for a great price though - here's the thread for product/order info; Stainless Steel chain guards

edit: fixed link

Thanks for supplying the link!

'Preciate it Jester, and no problem eight. Adidas' style comes bare, but they paint up nicely(I think toogoofy painted her's)

Also forgot to post my paint schemin' photos;

mock up

photochop with powder coating and dark taillight lense

Painting is far off though.. I want to save up and do it right since I'll be hanging onto her for a long long time.

I am really liking the look of the bug shield. I think it fits well and ties the lights to the front end nicely(forgive the dirt pile, this was 1/2 way through garden renovation)

OK, no more ramblings from me until I have more progress :-X

Had a good day yesterday wrenching. Started out swapping the oem front caliper back on. Really wanting to get her road worthy asap. I'm going to look into mounting hardware for the nissin caliper w/ sv650 adapter later.

Got the Jardine sized up and mounted as well. Everything went well, except i have some interference on the rear brake pedal. I have probably an inch and a half of travel, which i assume is not nearly enough. I'll look closer at that once I get fluid in the rear brake system to see what my pedal feels like. Also the strap they sent me looks to be made out of scrap metal haha. Thinking of spraying it black when i paint the rest.

Next on the list was the carbs. Damn they had gotten a lot worse that I thought! Had some pretty stubborn varnish on the right carb. Got most of it out, but it will need another round for sure. Rejetted to 147.5/65/20, I'll probably shim the needle once i find the right o-rings. I want to be sure i'm rich enough for my break in period, at least til 500 miles.

I did pull a dumb move and had removed the throttle positioning sensor when i pulled the carbs apart the first time. I should have read the big bold message in the manual that says DO NOT REMOVE THIS TPS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!! haha so now I have to  get a multi meter and get it right..

A quick time lapse of some of the work;

New battery, oil, and filters will be here tomorrow. Hopefully will be able to start her soon.

I have been meaning to ask, what are those head lights and windscreen from? Buell? or are they just the dominator lights? I read thread just couldnt find it, thanks!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

steezin_and_wheezin

They are an aftermarket 5-3/4" dual light setup from Aztec8. A bit pricey, but i wanted something bigger than the tiny looking dominators. Adding the bug screen really pulls the front end together nicely, in my opinion. Light output is really great from them. I may try the diamond cut lens that aztec offers, but that's another pricey upgrade.

My only complaint is the non metric(imperial) hardware :technical:

Wowwwzers those are quite pricey. But they do look very nice and different. I love the windscreen, thats like the main thing I was looking at haha. Is there no way to mount them further down on the forks?

*EDIT*

Actually on second thought, you could turn the mounting ears upside down and that would make for a lower mount. Thats just my preference though, I like everything to be low profile haha.

I dont think you would run into problems either with it hitting the fender when bottoming out.

Sorry just rambling on now and day dreaming. I'll stop now  :confused:

After a much needed prod from Jester, I got some more work done. She is officially running again :woohoo:

Recorded on the gopro without my external mic.. sounds awful on film, but so good in person!

Got quite a bit done, but the To Do list keeps growing! I have to be running, inspected, plated, and broken in by June 29th/30th

List of things done;
- clean petcock and ran new fuel lines
- new chain installed
- adjusted shift linkage, but may shorten a bit more to get the angle on shifter i'm after.
- Lights wired and tightened, still need to check proper height/angle
- Reinstalled TPS sensor- Luckily found an old photo i snapped that showed its original position.
- finished mounting carbs and lunchbox
- found out my horn doesn't work for some reason! This is a small thing, but will keep me from passing inspection..
- removed center stand. With the center stand in the upright position the part you step on is right between my foot peg and shifter..
- ordered new battery but found out they are on backorder. So i'm going to get one online somewhere
- tightened and aligned my rear wheel.
- ordered the morgan car sync tool
- installed a bar end mirror
- flipped my clip on bar clamps. PO had them reversed so my NOS bars wouldn't fit unless i filed a new grooves..

I dropped my friends battery in, motion pro aux tank on the side, and she purred right to life! Smelled a bit funny, and had a bit of smoke, but I figured it was just the brand new jardine's piping/muffler packing. I'll be watching it like a hawk after getting my battery and oil in!

I do have 1 hose i'm not sure what to do with. I've eliminated the PAIR system since this was originally a CA bike. I have 1 hose I believe went to the rear PAIR canister under the battery box, not sure if i should block it or put a filter on it. I'll have to take some photos of it and do some more research later.

More work on her tonight, and all this weekend. I plan to have it inspected, plated, insured and on the road by the end of next week. We'll see how that goes..

Sounds good.  See you on the 29th/30th!

steezin_and_wheezin

Preeesh CBR! Will hopefully seen you on the 30th Jester. I don't know why, but my confidence is weird on this project.. I'm really stoked on how its coming together, feels good, engine feels strong, but I guess since its been down for so long I'm a bit of a worry wart. I definitely will be putting together a solid tool kit to take with me on the first leg of the GS500 Relay. Just need to ride it around, put some miles on it to get some confidence in my wrenching.

Have managed a couple nights down in the shop, but not a whole lot accomplished. I did get her insured and picked up my new tags! Got most of my first round of torquing done. Went through the wiki torque list, then through the manual to get the rest of the essentials. Next moved onto the smaller bits(lights, shield, gimbel rearsets, oil cooler, gauges, mud and chain guard, etc..) Just a few more small hardware and i'll have everything torqued for round #1. I'll probably do 3-4 heat cycles and torque my header bolts, pair plates, and carbs/lunchbox

Going to get this whole weekend on it! Hopefully I'll get to change the thread title from Rebuilding to Riding/Tuning!! Might even toss together an edit if i get some vids recorded
