Decided to take my bike to work yesterday for the first time.  Went over to the corner gas station to fill up - no problems.  Started the bike and put in first gear and it stalls, I'm like WTF?  Tried again, same thing.  I push it off to the side and try again with no luck.  So I walked home (grumbling) to get the car and trailer, go pick the bike up at the gas station and bring it home.  Look the bike over but didn't see anything out of the ordinary so I decide to do a search on this forum.  Turns out that I didn't put the kickstand up before poping it into gear and that's what killed the engine   .  The previous owner hasn't found the owner's manual yet so I haven't had a chance to review it yet.  Are there any more "safety" features I should know about so I don't have to look like this guy again   ?

I'm with you.  I almost didn't buy my bike because the owner himself didn't know about this feature.  I kept putting it into gear, and it kept shutting down in his driveway.  After 15 minutes of this, we finally realized what was going on, and I bought it.

Excellent!!

Other safety features....hummm...can't think of any right off the top of my head...

BRB-your name refer to the Chevy Z34?  I have an early model ('93-black) and loved.  Sold it after a bad hail storm in Nebraska.

Yeah, kinda laughed at myself afterwards.  And yes, my cage is a '96 Monte Carlo Z34 - I love it too!  It's been a great car so far (had it since '98.  Now I'm afraid it'll just sit in the garage now  :( .

Do not feel too bad about it. I basically had the same thing happen to me last week on my TLR. I put up my stand but it did not go completely against the switch. Took a couple of seconds to realize this. It needs a little lube after riding in all that rain.
Common sense in not very common.
