Almost 12k KMs, but bike seems to be starting fine. Would you recommend changing them anyway and if so, what spark plugs would you suggest. Thx guys

Replace spark plugs every 7000 miles........

Use NGK...they are cheap and good....yes plugs can last longer than that...but change anyway...preventative maintenance...

Do it once, do it right...NGK Iridium DPR8EIX-9, I would never bother putting a standard plug in anything as long as there is an Iridium equivalent for it, because of the hairpin electrode, they will fire using less voltage than a traditional plug...you will probably sell off your GS long before it ever needed a second set of Iridium's.

Second that  it's worth spending the extra money.

I've done all my GS miles on the standard NGK DPR8EA9 plugs changed every 6-7k miles except last change on my 02 at 96.8k miles.  Plugs were quite black for the first time, previous DPR8EA9 had nice color as they also did for 80k miles on the 97GS.  Went one step hotter to DPR7-EA9 this time.

The first set of plugs that came in my 97 GS bought new back in 99 started cutting out after 7k miles when winding it up to high rpm so I've used the shorter change period since.

Picked up a couple NGK DPR8EIX-9. Gap seemed the same as stock, so left it. I believe these are gapped to spec anyway.

Definitely go with the iridiums.


For a good price on them, go to RockAuto.com

I think they have them for $6.50 or so.  They're about $3 more a piece at the local O-Reilly's Auto Parts store...

Thx. Actually I picked up a couple of NGK DPR8EIX-9 today, but double the price, which auto parts are here in Canada compared to the US
