Petrol smell

Hi all,
I have a brand new 2013 GS500.  Approx 800ks on the clock so will be going in for the first service very soon.
Since having the bike I have noticed a fairly strong petrol smell after a run.  Once in the garage it's very noticeable.
There is no obvious leaks and the bike seems to run just fine.
I initially just put it down to a "new bike" smell but am now not so sure.
I will be mentioning it on the first service however am keen to have an idea of what it might be beforehand. (some rip-off protection!)
I have searched for this on here and other places and have seen suggestions around running rich.  I'll be checking the plug condition tonight.
Does anyone have any other possibilities? (remember this is a new machine)
Cheers

Try to localize the smell more specifically - is it coming from the gas tank, the fuel valves, carbs, air box, etc?

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Check the plugs condition but if it's running ok it could just be the smell concentrating in the enclosed garage enviroment.
Mention this smell at first service like u said......better for them to know ASAP for possible future reference.

Check the carb overflow hoses.  Are they dripping or wet at all?

Feel around the fuel lines and look with a flash light. There may be a tiny drip from a connection to the tank or the frame petcock.

GS500 has vented fuel filler cap...always smells like gas around tank cap...

Only time I really smell it on my 450 is when I fill it a little too much and it expands in the heat and starts to weep a little out of the fuel cap... no overflow on my old beast... not sure if that helps any but it might...

Have you ever been in a shop that sells second-hand machines......not brand new fresh out of the crate FI stuff but a crappy little outfit that's punting 5-10 year old carbed chod that has been thrashed almost to death?

I have, many times....and everyone of them stinks of petrol.

Tell your dealer about it but if they don't find anything I wouldn't worry. Bikes smell of petrol period!, it seeps out via tank and carb vents and through the air filter and it becomes especially noticeable when left in enclosed and unvented sheds and garages.

Thanks all for your input.
Had the 1000k service done yesterday.  They checked pretty much everything mentioned above and found nothing.  Seems to be a bit better lately but then it has gone a lot cooler now. (for Brisbane anyway! ;))

I was wondering why I smelled gas. Only while I ride do I smell it, when it's been sitting for a bit it's gone. I was all over that bike and couldn't find a leak anywhere. Never thought of the cap vent.
