Looks like a well made assembly with some bearings in there - and maybe a small spindle motor of some sort...

Those copper colored things... Are they hard plastic material? And are there usually more of them when this thing is in use?

Yes it is some kind of motor with bearings. And, I don't know what those copper colored plastic things are. I have an theory on what they are. Based on that theory there could be more or less of the copper colored plastic things. They are removable. They are not important......ignore them.
Why are you looking here?

Hard drive motor
Yes it is. I think those plastic things are weights to balance the motor???

Speaking of HDD's the magnets make GREAT magnets for tank bags.

it looks kinda like a cleaning rod for a pistol .. with that little loop on end .. but would be hard to grip that little ball on other end ? ..

or... it also kinda looks like a 'industrial size' needle for a machine... like for making carpets or something?

Closest guess so far, but still a ways off. This tool is used by hand.

Is it a tool for threading wire through tight spaces?

I'm thinking either wire puller or a tool to put drawstrings back into clothing.

slipperymongoose

Looks like an arm off a rc servo
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

That is it.  Technical term is "bodkin".

A monster surge protector?

Kiwingenuity

I have some photos of monster surge protectors, but they are fairly plain with a single insulator per phase.

EDIT: Like a surge protector, this thing is also filled with gas...
