Ok so here's the deal.....i love my GS but since i was t-boned last May of '03 i had my bike repaired (by the other guys insurance) the bike has never been the same.  About 1 month ago i had a jet kit installed, front shocks customized to be a bit firmer, Pirelli Demons put on, Napolean mirrors, and a full Vance + Hines exhaust.  But for the third time i had a gasket installed incorrectly (at the cams) and the bloody semi-circled part blew out for about the third time in 2 months it was otherwise running and sounding beautifully.  I am not mechanically inclined nor do i have the facilities to keep a bike in a place where i can learn to work on it.  So my '02 was towed to a shop in Manhattan where it sits....a new gasket already has arrived for it.  In the past i've instructed the mechs not to place sealant over the half circle parts of the gasket...but ultimately they always do and i've been frustrated and very distrustful of the mechs and unfortunately the bike.

Two weeks ago i bought an '04 Ducati M620 Dark in a beautiful silver.  I already love this bike.  Ya i know....i read everything on the FZ6, SV650, Honda 599...all of them wonderful bikes but i too am vertically challenged and the Monster feels perfect....and the 2 year warranty is a good deal not to mention my insurance won't go up.

Now....my '02 GS sits in a shop.  It is for sale and obviously needs some work.  The shop is offering me $1200 for it (sob) and will waive the towing but maybe not the storage.  I just want to sell the bike ASAP as keeping it in storage becomes an expense and repairing it will become an additional expense.  So if anyone is interested in the bike (maybe someone local) who has more mechanical skills and is willing to make a fair offer and obviously able to pick up the bike please let me know.
Personally  i would rather see one of you guys and gals in possession of her than the predators in this shop. If i got 2K for her it would be wonderful....but i won't hold my breath.  So if anyone's got a loving home for my first bike let me know.  As well as any questions or need for pics...etc.....now i need to look for the bloody title.

ps....this is by far the best bike board i've found.  I hope you guys don't mind if i stick around despite my change in "brands".

Thanx and ride safe...!!!   :thumb:   :thumb:  :P  :thumb:  :P  :thumb:

Don't let the shop rip you off like that!  1200 for a machine with all those new parts? :?  If the same part fails after each repair, you should force the mechanic to fix it for free  :x

I hope you have fun on your Monster!  Stick around and give your input :) we could all use it!

To start off... how do you keep your bike from being damaged or stolen in NYC?  I've seen pics of it parked in the street!

Turkina i have no idea...i live in Queens and park it on the sidewalk with a cover on it (and a lock of course...).  That's it.  I might actually live in a decent neighborhood after all.  :P
Anyhow...thanks for the kind words...!!   :thumb:

So, give us a mini-review of the Monster.

juggernaught

A review of the Monster....ahh yes.  First of all i'm all of 5'5" 135#.  The Monster 620 Dark is about 5# heavier than the GS.  The riding position is a bit more aggressive and one thing me and my buddy noticed was the closeness of the left foot peg to the gear shifter.  Took a little getting used to but all is well now.  The bike accelerates very quickly.  If you sneeze you'll accelerate in fact.  If it's a big sneeze you may pop a wheelie.  The sound is an unobnoxious and sweet rumble that is like music.  The front suspension is just right though the rear spring seemed a bit soft even for this little dog.  The bike maneuvers almost like a GS in fact the bars seem almost exactly the same.  The Dark version which i have has a "seamless clutch"....a Desmo thing....now i don't know what that means but it seems to me that gearshifting is more fluid with less effort.  The bike is air cooled and for some reason i like air cooled.  I never liked the "radiator" look on a naked bike.  The instrument panel includes oil temp, clock, trip meter, and mileage all in digital display and the speed and tach are like the GS but more visible in darkness.  There is also a low fuel warning lite that is somethin i really like.
and it's pretty too.

here is a pic

i thought the monster darks were supposed to be sometype of matte black or flat black, cause i almost bought a monster dark 750 awhile back.
No Guts!! No Glory!!
No such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people that ask questions.

paui

wait you live in queens yet you brought the bike to a shop in MANHATTAN??  i hope it wasnt cycle therapy bc ive heard nothing but bad bad things about them...
for your new bike... theres a ducati/triumph dealer in new hyde park.
dont know about the people in that shop either....i think bike mechanics are 1000x worse than car mechanics...
Don't mind me I'm just new.

juggernaught

Paui...yes the bike is in Cycle Therapy (gulp) but they are only storing it.  I've used their services before and i agree....they are bloody thieves.  My bike ended up there only because that was near where it died on me and they actually had the least expensive towing. :x  :nono:  :dunno:
