I think I joined a secret club when I got my bike.

I've only been riding for three days now but everytime another biker passes by I get a wave or a nod (reciprocated of course!).  Does everybody get this?  I didn't know about the secret club before I got my bike.  I just need to find out a local hangout now for fellow bikers to shoot the you-know-what with.  Too bad we're supposed to get rain 'till Wednesday :x .

I knew about the "secret club" before riding  ;)  ... I hang out on a few boards. But to actually experience the wave, now that was kewl!

Definitely cool to experience the wave. Now that I think about it, the first day I drove my bike through town, a motorcycle cop waved at me and I was like holy cow  :)

it's called the 2wheels club, if you ride on two than wave.  it's a acknolagiment (sp) thing. please excuse spelling it's a drunk thing.

Anybody else notice that Harley riders don't wave?

davipu

it's a pride thing: if you think it's cool to ride a harley than you wont wave to anyone else,  around here if you don't have dual HID lights than a sport bike rider will NOT wave. but that's jus't the way it goes.

Alias

Everyone else is cool, except the harly guys :p

Harley guys dont wave at any one that doesnt look like a cruiser...but some times they get confused by the round head light on the gs.....Every one who rides motorcycles has the same passion for the sport  of riding...but harley guys are dicks cause they ride harleys.  Besides...almost every one you see on a harley nowadays is a dentist or lawyer who is having a mid-life crisis. And they have to pretend to be badasses together.

Turkina

Nah, you got it wrong...

Harley riders who are on their bike for the love of riding usually wave :)  Both the old gnarly dudes and the guys who take their wives on tours on their Electra-Dyna Fat Boy Glide... they'll wave.

The lawyers, accountants, and the new guys who buy Harleys and choppers for the 'image', they usually don't wave.  Usually they think they are too good for us other motorcyclists!  Their bikes only rack up a few hundred miles a year since they're out just to display their toy.  So... many of the guys who don't wave, aren't really motorcyclists.  Many of us are just learning and ride much more than that!!

LMAO

I try to wave to everyone I see on two wheels. The ones on the Harleys and cruisers (you know, the ones that think its uncool to wear a helmet with all their leather) usually give me mixed reviews. Sometimes they wave and sometimes they don't. Oh well :dunno:

Yep, I saw it a lot when I would ride with my boyfriend and now that I have my own bike, they wave all the time....and yes Harley riders almost never wave back.

I've noticed in my limited travels that wave returns seem to be region specific.  I get about 95% total wave return when riding through Pennsylvania and Carrol County, MD... but as soon as I reach the DC area, the 'we only wave to our kind' mentallity kicks in and cruiser riders just don't wave.  its strange, but I've made the trip multiple times and it always happens... as soon as I reach the metro area, the cruiser waves just stop and the sport-bike waves drop to about half.

Welcome to the club, and it's world-wide. Over here and in Europe most (90-95%) of riders acknowledge with a nod rather than a wave but we ride on the wrong side to wave I guess. A few of the cruisers and big sports bike types are above it all but there's always one is'n't there........

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Here is a couple of older message threads we had going on the topic of "The Wave"
I always wave unless I'm tied up, then a prominent head nod is in order.
Welcome ot hte club!

You may have hit on something with the rich guys. They wouldn't wave from their BMW or Mercedes either would they? Plus, they may not be able to ride well enough to have the confidence to remove one hand from the bars. :dunno:

harley riders think the wave is a harley thing....not a two wheeled thing.  To them every one else is a wannabe

Sometimes true...
I've found about 75% of the Harley riders wave...and I wave to them all.  I figure if they don't wave then that's their preference, but it's not going to stop me from extending the gesture.

I have found lately that a good portion of HArley Riders in Calgary wave. Unless you ride in Bowness where the Hells Angels opperate from. Other than that, they all seem pretty friendly.
